Default Hair not holding styles= Need more protein?

I'm starting to think the reason why my hair doesn't hold styles is due to a need for protein. I want to a do a protein treatment to see if this will help with style holding. But I'm also afraid that doing a protein treatment will my hair break off because I use products with hydrolyzed protein. My hair doesn't have the usual signs of needing more protein. I can't really tell with my hair since its naturally on the dry side.

Styling products used:

Lottabody Carrot oil foaming lotion (rod sets)

I was using Shea Moisture (shampoo, deep masque, and leave in conditioner) at one point before I realized that my hair always felt stripped after I shampooed. And the deep masque made my hair feel "stringy". I also get that stringy feeling when I use eggs for a homemade protein treatment.

Has anyone else experience something similiar to this with their hair? What did you do to combat this issue?

Could it be too much protein? I had to back up off the protein myself. My hair was feeling like straw and it just wasn't wanting to hold curls, and frizzes in some spots like it's in a contest!

I'll be interested in seeing what others say on this subject too, though.

I'd try using a clarifying poo first. Then try using styling products and see how it works. Also how often do you poo, clarify, do protein treatment, alternate with products without protein. More importantly hair properties plays a huge part. My hair in medium density with fine normal and a patch if thick strands. I have normal porosity hair which means I don't a lot of protein. On wash days fine but daily it's gets brittle dry dull and styles like TO's looks horrible. I need more moisture than protein. Low porosity uses very lil protein & hi porosity uses a lot if protein in their reggie.

Need for protein is not measured by porosity, it is measured by thickness of strands. Fine strands need a lot of protein, and vice versa.

Thanks for the replies, ladies! Something to add, I did a rod set on night. Woke up and went to work the next moring. I work outside and it was foggy that moring. After raising flags and doing the lagoon check, I happen to pass by the mirror to find out the curls fall out. And I had a halo of new growth with straight ends hanging out. I'm not sure what happened there since I used Lottabody for the set. I even fowolled the tips i found on http://napturallycurly.com/about-site/.

Speaking of rod sets. My sets can't pass a day. Despite wearing a silk bonnet the first night, the curls fall out of my hair and my hair looks similiar to a bird's nest in the next moring. I'm starting to think that 2nd day hair isn't possible with the current condition of my hair. And that doing the bc will help simplify my hair care.

Thank you all for your patience and time for reading through this. I made a similiar post describing this issue I'm having. It's the only issue I'm having during this tranisition. Hair not holding styles. I look to see if there's any information about this but couldn't find anything.
