I've been shedding A LOT! I don't know what's normal shedding/or breakage. My hair seems to be dry though. I am VERY new to this natural hair life. I began transitioning 1 year ago and i have consistently had it in braids with braid hair added ever since. I have NO idea what my hair should look or feel like when it's healthy. My mother started putting relaxers on my hair when I was 3 years old (so I have no reference) and I don't know anyone with natural hair. What are tell tale signs of healthy kinky hair? This picture was taken yesterday-- honestly, does it look healthy? I will not take offense to negative comments. I need honest opinions and suggestions (this is after a wash, then I corn rowed it into 5 braids and took them down and this is what I was left with)

I dont see a attached picture but that is ok. To know if you have natural healthy hair is should feel soft and fluffy. Shedding is positive because your hair is coming in with new growth. If it is breaking then I would be concerned. There is nothing wrong with having a dry spell but you need to reinstate moisture to have the hair grow in a healthy state. If you are shedding there should be white bulb on the tips. If it is breaking you would have spilt hairs with no bulbs. To minimiz shedding I would get a set of garlic shampoo and conditioner, or can crush garlic in the shampoo and conditioners you already have or you can take garlic supplements. Another way you minimize is doing black tea rinses. But I found the garlic most effective. Tea rinse is still a option. To keep moisture I would practice the LOC Method this can be done both in protective and worned out natural hair. The LOC Method is Liquid Oil Cream. Hair need moisture Liquid would be water oil being the one you choose or have and cream would be your sealer to protect the natural hair. Another thing you can try down the road is a kimmaytube mix in a applicator bottle. A creamy leave in (if protein senstive try to find something w.o), aloe vera, castor oil and jojoba. If you do not have jojoba you can use olive oil. This is something you can do research on youtube. I find this most effective as I have minimal shedding that what I had in the beginning. Hth.
