Re: Curly Film Chick
really? they were too tight? When i wrapped the bands around my roots I did them loose because I was afraid of that. Then I used magnetic rollers. I tend to use perm rods only when I'm curling up the ends because they never stay for me.

Hair musings for the day
So I've been thinking about some hair goals for myself. This is the first winter I'm actually paying attention to my hair, although I have been natural my whole life I didn't start caring for it until maybe May or June of 2009.
I really would like healthy hair and I think I am pretty good with being there. I'm keeping my routine minimal and seeing really great results when I think back to how my hair was before. I mean grant it, it's shorter but it's healthier! Four years ago my hair was APL but due to negligance my hair kept breaking and I kept cutting (I had no idea what to do with it) my hair was above my shoulders (nearly ear length shrunken) I somewhat have a length goal, but I'm not married to it. But I took a couple of pics to maybe monitor my progress:

it's around collarbone length (rounding down). My hair has layers (which somewhat annoys me) and the back seems to grow faster then the front. I had bangs during the summer and they have since grown out:

Before my trims they were midway of my lips...
I'm hoping that I can attain 1.5-2 inches by the time I graduate in late May, assuming I continue to take care of my hair (and my health!) for this crazy semester

Re: Curly Film Chick
So yesterday my scalp was dry, and when I shook my head particles came out (um ew). So I decided to try putting aloe vera gel on my scalp (actually I asked my honey to do it because I'm lazy) and today I have no "particles" and my scalp feels "cool." I'm always worried about that when it comes to having braids because my scalp has always been a problem and scratching has always made my hair look crappy after a week and a half, and I plan to keep these braids in for at least a month.

Braids update:
My hair still feels nice, and the spritz I have been using is keeping them moisturized. There are two things I'm combating: boredom and the "tingling sensations" of my scalp. I just feel like my scalp constantly needs to be rubbed or something needs to be added to it. I'm low on aloe vera gel (you guessed it, 2 people are using it lol) and as far as boredom I just wanna style my hair differently.
Well, I pinned up the back of my hair yesterday for a different look:

It just made the back look shorter I guess. I did it a little messy but I think I may experiment with that this week

I applied Henna pt. 1
Happy Monday!
So I did the henna! I really want to take a good picture of what it did for my hair so you won't see it right now. I have naturally dark brown hair that has a bright sheen to it. I also have old hi-lights from like a year and change ago. So the henna made my hi-lights reddish and my hair appears more brown and very shiny! But this is what I started with:

Before I did anything...
Process:

I didn't let the dye release over night. Instead I mixed two boxes of Jamila with green tea and set it in front of a heater for a couple of hours until it turned brown.

It has a strong smell, but I didn't mind it. I'm playing in the consistancy here cuz I was slightly amused.

Applying it to my hair. As you can see, I sectioned it to make it easier, altho I still had help...

My hair completely covered. I think next time I will use three boxes for the amount of hair I have.

Dang, maybe that's why I don't have much color. I only use one box! And it looks like we have similar lengths and thickness! Are you APL or BSL?
