Default IPad Mini anyone?

I'm thinking it could be good for my 7 year old. Get him off my IPad.

I'm taking a child development class and children with electronics like that are not good. Studies have shown they become distant and don't quite develop social skills. I had a leapster and my cousin now has a V-tech those are much better because they are strictly for learning, not for entertainment. If you do get it I would limit his use of it, to maybe 30 minutes or so a day.

My sis is getting her kids a laptop this year but they had the leap pad thing for awhile. I see nothing wrong as long as they are learning my niece and nephews are very bright for their age. My niece is already counting in spanish. They sing their abcs and 123's. They also have educational books. And so much more hey they know how to work my nookbook...lol they pick the stories they want to read without my help, and I couldn't believe it.

Children can get tired of things fast trust bc my sis once took away the toys and pads and they were missing it. Then one day, when she finally gave it back they actually sit down and cheerish it even more.

I have my Masters in Ed, so I already know that. Actually those studies have been in the media for more than 15 years, so I knew that before grad school. People who let their children play with electronics for hours on end have made a decision. It's highly doubtful that the kids perish for lack of parental knowledge. I appreciate your concern though.

I wonder how much it's going to cost. It's supposed to target the Kindle Fire and other inexpensive tablets, but I can't imagine Apple doing anything for close to $200. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

BTW, Apple has the Apps for special needs children on lock and that is largely what he uses it for. We have the Leap Pad. It doesn't compare.

I've heard of a iPad mini but that's all. But IMO technology is good for kids. My recently turned 4 yr old granddaughter can operate a smartphone, has a nook color (that purchased at a damn good price from my coworker) and can operate my ipad. She even has her own Pandora station. Are these devices her only methods of learning? No. They are used to reinforce what she has been taught. Well, not the smartphone....that's def entertainment. But my point is technology can be a useful tool for learning and reinforcing. Case in point. Ms diva already knows her alphabets by sight. She has learned to use a keyboard (reinforcement) with her educational games because she already knows her alphabets.

She knows Spanish..... words, phrases, colors, songs, numbers. Did she learn from Dora? Nope. She learned in daycare. Her mom was asked once did she learn spanish from Dora. That's like sitting a child in front of tv to be self taught! Those that are self taught with no parental involvement are likely the ones who are socially repressed. That's my $.02 worth.

So OP, if you feel your child is ready for mini iPad and the cost won't damage your pockets, go for it!
