what to wear

Post by Allidaughter on 14th March 2010, 9:01 pm

I wear twists pulled back with some loose hair in front. I am an RN in a hospital so I need it neat and off my face. I also work in a predominantly white/Latino environment so in some ways I am setting the standard for the Black hair experience, LOL. My concern is about intensly graying hair. It beyond my capability to color it very thoroughly... and the salons are tres cher !! I'll try to find a a picture to post.

Hi everyone!!! I was beginning to wonder about hairstyles as well because all of the how to's on the videos are all "youngsters", not to say I'm old - tee hee. But, seriously, I did want to know what are some other hairstyles women were wearing. So far, I've just been wearing the roller sets and I like it. My hubby thinks I look like a chia pet, but my 15 and 19 yr old sons, love it. He's probably just used to me wearing my hair straight for, let's see we've been married, 21 yrs! I am in transition and my last perm was in Nov. I want to try the twist outs, but I'll wait for the weekend, in case it doesn't turn out right [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

TheRYL1 wrote:Hey SisterBoyd...

Yeah, I've been taking notes from y'all hair gurus and am seeing wonderful results!

I TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR OFFER! I thank you, girl. I'll have all the scoop tomorrow...I'll surely let you know.

I'm currently readying HAIR STORY Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America. Very interesting...it talks about the African heritage of big, banging hair! ;-) In Africa, your hair was a billboard..your station in life, your surname, where you're from, etc. Women even had a hair-do to piss off the husband's other wives! LOL Upon our arrival here, our hair was cut off or covered, and with no natural oils (see, that's our heritage) available, the hair matted & fell out, making it ugly and unmanageable. Once importing slaves ended, American born slaves didn't know the power of their hair...and we lost that understanding too! Wow. (I knew I could share this here...my friends have looked at me like I'm really losing it!)

Another point the book mentioned: More educated, financially-secure people (women) wear natural styles, and less-educated, poorer individuals wear their hair straighted.

Ladies, what do you think about this? Do you see some truth in this stance? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Wow! This is amazing! I'm going to have to check out this book. This makes a lot of sense to me. Now the natural vs. straighten in relation to economics I don't know???? I know a mix of folks who are sprinkled throughout the economic ladder and they believe straighter is better. However, it is a very interesting point.

I still need to call you...how are you feeling?

Ok I'm caught up!

Welcome all of the newbies to the thread! If you haven't I would highly suggest reading the entire thread for ideas on styles and care tips for your beautiful hair.

Nyla...I'm so sorry about your laptop. Those old booties will get theirs! And yes, I'm getting my tickets for Jill and Maxwell as long as they aren't super high. When Maxwell was here last year his tickets were $200...ummm I think not!

But hey I have a fun fill weekend planned. Friday - Rochelle Ferrell, Saturday - Steve Harvey, Sunday - my son will be running his 2nd LA Marathon. Please, please keep him in prayer, happy and healthy thoughts, and positive energy. You guys know I'm going to be a blubbering mess when he crosses the finishline! Its so wonderful to see him do this. As you know he was a 28 week old premie when he was born weight 2.6lbs and was in the hospital for 3 1/2 months with respiratory problems up the ying yang...and then my husband his father left us when he was 2 and he hasn't seen him since. So the fact that he can do all of this training and then complete the marathon is just wonderful considering they said he was going to be mentally disabled with physical disabilities. I'm such a proud mommy and blessed and grateful child of the Most High God! Jesus has really been wonderful to me Wink

Ok I'm going on and on...I'll be back to check on you guys (((HUGS))) for everyone!
