Default Job Networking HELP!!!!!

I am currently in the process of relocating to the Maryland/DC Metro area. I currently live in Florida and I am job hunting in that area. The problem I am having is that I am not getting many call backs for positions that I qualify for. I thought it was my address, so I changed it to the address I will be moving to in that area and I am getting a little interest but not much. I have been using various job sites (CareerBuilder and other military job posting site).

So I am looking to networking with people here and see if I will be able to position myself into finding something in that area. I am military and will be retiring soon so I'm trying to set myself up for success. I am in the area a least once a month because my "other half" has already relocated there. I just can't move until I have a job lined up, “it’s my independent part of my personality” lol.

Hope to connect with some people on here and get some feedback on how I should go about finding a job. Thanks in advance!

Good luck with that. I live here and I've been out of work for 3 years.

Yes, that is how I am feeling. Have been looking what seems forever and not getting much feedback. Looks like I need a higher security clearance to land something in that area. I'm starting to feel defeated.

Im not in that area...relocated to So Cal about 4 yrs ago, got married. Worked a shortwhile, now home w/ our daughter. Out of steady work about 3 yrs. Want AND need to get back into the workforce but feel so obsolete. Even some temp agencies say hard to place me as they place most recent experience. I was in financial svcs for 11 yrs but left it to teach preschool. Moral, they dont place for preschool & it's been over 6 yrs I've been in an office setting. Still have my skills, but "not what they're looking for".

Hang in there! Don't give up! Your right position will come. Meantime, where you are - SAVE!!!! trust me! Have you considered temp. Some agencies do contract, temp, temp-to-perm, & permanent. Try Manpower or Kelly Services. Im from the east coast, cant remember other agencies but those are top 2. Good luck... Wishing you well!

Kelly and Manpower pull their resumes from Career Builder or Monster. They don't even check their own databases.

Try office teams. I use to temp through them all the time.

@CurlieQutie Thanks for the encouragement! I am military and will be retiring within the next year, so that area is a perfect fit for me to use my military experience and clearance.

Thanks for the info about the resume posting sites. I currently have my resume on CareerBuilder, but am thinking about getting a professional resume writer to take a stab at my current resume. I will check out the other services.

Military and clearance? You'll have a job before you unpack.

I was visiting last week in the Maryland/DC area. I happen to talk with a friend where her job was looking for another employee. She called her HR manager and we set up a interview for last Monday. The interview went great, they offered me the job on Thursday and I accepted. Thanks for the encouragement guys!

Best of luck to you! Networking in the DC metro area is very difficult because the people there are not very friendly to "outsiders " so to speak. I lived there for three years and that was my experience. Hopefully with your military background you won't have these problems.
