Default Can someone explain Christianity to me?

Hi guys I'm not looking to start a debate on religion, but I really just want a few questions that have been circling my mind for such a long time. I was born a Muslim and I still am, I do believe that it's the right religion for me and I believe in Jesus but, in a different way to Christians and that he was just God's prophet, here to spread the message but I don't agree about him being the son of God. I can't imagine God having a son so that's why I wanted these questions answered by any Christians here, I see many of you here with strong, admirable faith:

If Jesus is God's son, why do some people pray to him and not God?

Is Jesus God?

The Holy Trinity is very confusing for me. Are the 3 all God or are they separate beings? Could the Holy Trinity be parts of God?

Why is there Original Sin? Why does a baby who hasn't done anything wrong must be born a sinner?

If Jesus died for everyones sins, does that mean that Christians will automatically go to heaven? Are there any Christians who'll go to hell?

If Jesus died on the cross, why do some Christians wear the crucifix? In my personal opinion, I wouldn't want to remind myself constantly of the pain he went through.

Is the bible the exact word of God? Do you agree with the bible being altered and being so many versions of it? The Quran is in Arabic and hasn't been changed, in fact we're taught to memorise and recite it so someone in their 80's will be reading the same verse as someone in their teens as it's the same.

What is your view on other prophets like Moses, Abraham, Adam and Solomon?

Thanks so much curlies, I don't really get the opportunity to ask these questions and as there's so many Christians here, what better people to ask?

Great questions and I'm going to tackle just one for now. Yes, Jesus chose to die on the cross to be the ultimate sacrifice for sins. However, his Death is not the end of the story. We, Christians believe he rose with all power. His Resurrection separates him from other prophets. We believe He was born w/o sin hence God being his father therefore not being born w original sin. People choose to wear crosses as a reminder of his love and depiction of their faith bc we know unlike other prophets and or gods Death is not the final story. This is why Easter Sunday is apart of our Holy week. Hth

Those are great questions. I can see how it can be confusing bcuz even within Christianity there are varying beliefs. Like, some blieve in the trinity and some dont, some blieve Jesus is Gods son and some blieve he is God, etc. I had the VERY same questions many yrs ago....down to the one about wearing a cross. I asked myself, if MY son was murdered, say by a gun, would I wear an image of that gun around my neck? I know I wouldn't. Whats even more is that the original text doesn't say he died on a cross, but a stake. Also, the Trinity. My study of the bible found that the word itself doesn't even appear in the Bible. And the Bible over the years has been tainted. One example is that Gods name has all but been removed with the exception of maybe 2 verses. It originally occured thousands of times. As far as perfect Adam...God told him and Eve not to eat of the fruit of a certain tree or they would die. When they disobeyed they became sinners subject to death and that sentence was passed on to their offspring including us. This is why we get sick, grow old and die. God sent his son Jesus to the earth to 'pay the ransom', or die for us, thus buying back what Adam lost....perfect life in paradise. I could go on and on, lol. But, if u get a chance....the next time Jehovahs Witnesses knock on your door maybe you can allow them to answer some of the other questions you may have. Hope this helps!

In answer to you why is there original sin...because there was disobedience in the garden...so we were born with/into sin...that's why we have to be born again. In the garden there had to be an animal sacrifice so Adam and Eve could be "forgiven." that's why Jesus was born, the Son of God, the Lamb...sacrificed for our sins. The Blood of Jesus cleanses us. HTH

I get it somewhat but if Jesus died for our sins, then wouldn't that mean we're free of sin now that he died for ours? Why are we still born with sin if Jesus was the sacrifice? I'm still finding a little confusing but you have explained a lot though!

Mainly we still sin, because we are still imperfect, we are Adam and Eve's off springs and we inherited the sins from them when they disobeyed God.But Jesus died so that one day we will be forgiven of our sins,if we exercise faith in his ransom sacrifice. At John 3:16, it says "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten son for whoever believes in him and his son, and exercise faith in him, they will be able to gain everlasting life. We will also be free of our sins and go back to perfection, the way God purposed for us to be from the beginning, before Adam and Eve sinned.

The part about praying to Jesus, we don't pray to Jesus but, we pray through Jesus to God, Jesus father.Because Jesus is a mediator between God and Man.

Each individual has to "accept" that for themselves. Everyone doesn't accept and BELIEVE. God had given everyone a free will, to recieve, ask His Son Jesus to come into our hearts and cleanse us. There are things in our hearts that have to deal with daily, hatred, selfishness, wrong attitudes, envy...

But to all who have received him - those who believe in his name - he has given the right to become God's children -John 1:12

I have to go fix dinner for my kids. But I wanted to interject that all Christians believe in the holy trinity and we all ascribe to the basic beliefs as stated in the Nicene and Apostles creeds. Catholics, eastern orthodox, and Protestants all recite or acknowledge these. The Nicene creed is a more detailed profession so to speak. Some denominations recite them more often than others.

Not to offend, but I have always thought non-Trinitarian religions such as Jehovah's Witnesses and latter day saints were not considered Christians. I know my Mormon friends from high school and graduate school do not identify as such. And my best friend in junior high was Jehovahs witness. We were listening to the Bodyguard soundtrack in the car (in the 90s) with her mom and her mom ejected the tape (yes, tape!) when "Jesus loves me" came on and said "can't do that." anyway, that friend of mine did not identify as a Christian either.

I'm sure someone else can answer the other questions for you. If not, I'll get my husband to respond on Monday if you'd like. He has a masters of divinity from Duke and he is a Protestant minister. Our church is right next to a mosque and we love our neighbors!

As far as the trinity, the word is not used in the Bible. I think it's just a word we use to refer to God the Father, Son and Spirit. They are all God in different form and function, but they are the same in essence. It's like H2O. It can be frozen, liquid and steam. Each of those states are capable of different things, but they are all still H2O.

Also, I think it is confusing to think of Jesus as a son. I think of Him as a part of God sent to die for us and create a covenant that could only be held between God and Himself.
