Default Elope..? Small Wedding?

My fiancé and I are thinking about eloping this December.
I’ve never been the type of girl to dream about her wedding.
I never understood how or why the couple would shove out thousands for an event that last less than 24 hours… it just doesn’t make sense to me.

We also thought of having a small wedding (about 20 people) and a bigger reception because we need the gifts… LOL.

What are your opinions on eloping rather than have a traditional wedding/reception?
Did you elope and now wish you would have had an actual wedding instead?
Did you have a small wedding?

Thanks all.

Hi, I am getting married 9/1/12 and our original plan was to elope, but my mom went through breast cancer this past year and it really changed our perspective. We also didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a day that can go toward the start of our life together, so we decided to host a luncheon, we are having a ceremony which anyone can attend, but we are having a small luncheon at a nice restaurant that we will host for close family and friends. It will be 3 hrs, we are having someone come and play jazz during the lunch as well. We are really excited about this idea and all my married friends said if they had to do it over, they would so something small and intimate like we are. Keep me posted on what you decide. Best wishes to you and your fiance.

I got married in Vegas. A total of 30 people came with me. We used our shower/engagment party for the event to get gifts and for everyone to come celebrate with us. It was a blast! My pictures are beautiful & the wedding planner at the chapel really helped with planning all the details. It saved us a ton of money and it was en event of a life time. When ppl think of vegas weddings, they ususally think of Elvis and something cheesy. Ours wasn't cheesy at all, it was traditional and small. I can't wait to go back and renew my vowels!

I got married 9/20/09 on the beach in PC!! It was amazing!! We had about 10 people went out to eat afterwards. We wanted to get married but I have a huge family they were all in SC it would've be a hassle on top of that my husband was coming off a deployment. So we decided on a beach wedding it turned out perfect!

If u don't want to spend a lot of money I would suggest not doing a reception after u elope because that's where the most money is spent. I planned a big wedding for Nov 7 2019 but my father passed away so I didn't want to go thru with it. I lost a lot of my money cause the wedding was paid for. So now were going to take our daughter and son and take a little vacation and get married while we are there. I hate the fact that I paid all that money for a wedding and my family don't even like each other. I say spend that money on a new house, car, vacation and even ur honeymoon. U can also consider doing a cruise wedding and take along a small group of people. U can have a cocktail event/ceromoney. I've looked into it all girl lol pm me if u have any questions.

The reception is where the bulk of your money is spent. The next time I get married, I'm definitely eloping with no reception.

I wanted to elope too. But we're having a small wedding. Anyone can come to the wedding but the reception is only a select few. We put reception cards in the invites of ones we wanted at the reception. We didn't rent out no big reception hall or anything. Our reception is going to be ina cmmunity center lol. Far from elegant but I suppose once we decorate it'll look nice. Its all we could afford. Iwas ready to go to the courthouse...shoot! Lol..but I can't wait for it to be over...4/7/12 needs to hurry

My husband and I had a small wedding at our church and an outdoors reception afterwards at the church. His uncle is the pastor and he's the youth pastor. We were together for 10 years prior (high school sweethearts) and our lives had changed tremendously over those years. We don't have tons of true friends and its not like we're millionaires to where we can afford to invite lots of people. We had about 50-75 guest, all family and extremely close friends. My husband wants a big wedding so at 5 or 10 years we'll do that. We will be financially capable to do so at that time.
