Kiki, I got chills when I read the Iriquois myth that I taught my 11th gr English class. In this myth a young unmarried girl is visited by an unknown man who lays an arrow on her and later she is pregnant with twins. The twins grow up to battle each other. Her mother tried to cut the bark from The Great Tree and fell from the Sky World. Umm... I thought of parallels to the Garden of Eden,Virgin Mary, and Cain and Abel all rolled up into one. It literally shocked and confused me.This is an ancient story that had been passed down generation to generation.

It makes sense, methinks. When the earth first came into being, all 7 continents were joined. So, more people interacted with each other than after the landmasses split. They'd all know the creation story, & probably the worldwide flood, too, & lots of other events from the early part of the OT. When the continents did break apart & people groups were separated, they likely passed the stories down from generation to generation, like you said. As time passed, some details were probably changed to reflect the reality perceptions & culture of the group telling it, but the main spine of the story stayed in tact.
I agree, btdubs. I enjoy reading the creation stories from all over the world, as well as ones about the great flood. It's like something that connects everybody to one another.

That's a good way to look at it.I still am not sold on some of the Chrisitianity rhetoric though. No offense to anyone but I think the major religions have more commonalities than differences.

No offense taken here! There are lots of commonalities between religions. I once heard a pastor say that they have so many things in common because they all try to satisfy our deep hunger for spirituality. I think that's why they all emphasize helping the poor, being kind to others, peace, etc.

Sometimes I think about giving my parents custody of Arianna. I regret joining the military. I regret becoming LDS, even though I'm not active anymore.

And I understand completely; I was just about to complain about the same thing lol.

I hate when i tell my friend I'm gonna buy a new tutu or combat boots (yeah, I dress oddly) and they go out and buy the same thing, then start bragging as if they thought of it.

Uh. Hello. I just said I was gonna buy That!

I suppose it's a compliment of sorts; it means they like your style?
Regardless. It still irks me.
