I don't have any silicones, just evoo, jbco and my Shea butter mix for sealing. I'm also out of the Cantu and just have the kckt that everyone talks about. Should I clarify, condition, add the kckt then seal with an oil and basically not let water touch it for a few days or what? My hair is dry and crunchy which makes me want to cowash every day, but apparently just letting it be dry eventually leads back to healthier hair that retains moisture longer. Is that right?

No.

Our hair loves moisture and water. It shouldn't be dry.

Crunchy hair means you are overusing a product. Hair doesn't get crunchy on its own.

How often do you clarify and why? Have you tried using a moisturizing shampoo? I ask because I used a clarifying shampoo (after I had a mess of products on my hair) and I didn't follow up with the matching conditioner. My hair was dry and my scalp was cheese grater itchy.

As for your regimen, I do something completely different, so I can't comment.

I agree with honnybrown it might be that you're overusing a product- try simplifying your regimen to just spritzing with water only and sealing with your shea butter mix once or twice a day. You might also want to try baggying a few nights a week, it really helps with moisture retention.

Also have you looked into your hair porosity?

I'm asking because I know my regimen is completely wrong. I use cream of nature argan oil sulfate free moisture and shine shampoo and vo5 conditioner. Shampoo about once a week. I also have Aussie moist shampoo but stopped using it because I heard sulfate were bad for low porosity or something, probably not all true though.

But what should I do to get my hair started back on the right track because anything I put in my hair now dries hard, even plain water.

Personally, I don't use sulfate-free shampoos because they are harsher and drying on my hair. I use a moisturizing sulfate shampoo daily to weekly, depending on what my hair needs and my hair is never, ever dry.

All the products that you use and quit using, research the correct way to use them as well as the benefits of using them. Use good, unbiased resources (such as NaturalHaven.com) as opposed to Pork Chop's sister on YT.

I agree with many of the ladies here. You're doing too much to your hair. And like Honny said your overuse of something is making your hair crunchy. I workout four times a week and never cowash. I tried it once and my hair asked me if I was crazy. LOL. Wash, condition, detangle, use a leave-in then seal. I dampen and use leave-in again maybe mid week. Keep it simple.

Well my hair was very dry and I was in the same predicament. I even started a thread on curlynikki about it. Someone made me realized that most of the products I was using had some type of protein in it. It was just too much. I also talked to my LS BC she has mid back length in like 1 year of hair. She recommended going back to using kimmaytube's leave in but use a moisture rich leave in. I started noticing a difference in my hair. I cowash 2x a week with AS I Am cowash. I prepoo with different oils and trader joes nourishing spa. Deep condition with AIA hydration elation and used AIA leave in in my kimmaytube's recipe. My hair feels so much better and it stays moisturized longer. On other day I just spritz water and put the recipe on and go. I hope this helps.

That's why I suggest cutting out all other products and sticking to water + Shea butter mix/oil mix+ if you're low porosity have you tried the Liquid Oil Cream sealin method?

it really will be up to you to try these things out and report back because whilst the simple regimen has worked for me, it might do nothing for you! Also definitely try baggying or the greenhouse effect method it helps with my dryness during the winter months

Try limiting the cowashes to once or twice a week. Use leave- in and seal with oil/Shea and twist. If dry, sprintz with water/oil mix. Keep it simple like others have said. Over moisturised or lack of protein?-imageuploadedbycurlynikki1361229327.348042.jpg

Ok Shea butter kinda dries my hair out I think. Maybe it's just too dry right now, but I'm going to try and go a week or at least 4-5 days without washing. I'm on day 2 and my hair is starting to get crunchy again so how often should I add moisture? I'm using water with olive oil plus kckt leave in and seal with jojoba or jbco and it eventually all dries out.
I'm asking because I don't want to put too much stuff in my hair, but I also don't want my hair to dry up to the point where it's doing damage.
How often do some of you apply moisture?
