This may be late and probably answered already. I've been to KK. When I first BCd, I had my hair trimmed there and had comb twists done there as well. My sister had braids done there a few times. Pricey for some things but they were professional, clean, and knowledgeable.

Did you make it to Mane Advocates? If so, how was it? I'm looking for someplace to get summer highlights and my old salon (Afrigenix) closed. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Any latest news on why Afrigenix closed so suddenly? I'm still surprised that they just...closed.

I don't know what happened, but it was very sudden. It was a family owned business, so I was sad to see them shut down. I did some Googling and found the Afrigenix stylist who did my BC, Lisa Bailey, is now working in Midtown:

I'm going to try to get an appointment this week.

Help !!!! I have been growing my locs out for approximately three months. I am ready to cut them off and feel my Freed hair. Can anyone recommend a salon in NYC to go to? I also need to have an educated natural hair stylist to teach me the nuances of my hair and the best way to take care of it.

I would appreciate the advice. I have this vision of myself and my continued weight loss that will not be detered.....!!!

Thanks

I've been to Lisa Bailey at the old Afrigenix salon and now at Serenity salon, directly across from the Empire State Building. She did my big chop and was very helpful getting me started on my natural journey. She also did natural styles for my bridesmaid and flower girls in my wedding. She's great.

Do you know if she is still there? I'm looking for a natural stylist for my wedding. It's been years since I let another person touch my hair. I dont want to add hair or anything, just styling of my current hair.

Yep, she did my hair last weekend. (I got highlights and Bantu knots with my own hair). Her reservation system is online only. On her website, select the service you want and it automatically shows you the price and the available times. You could book just a consultation first, so you can talk through what you want for your wedding. The website is www.hairbylisabailey.com.

If you haven't been to a salon in years, consider having her do a simple style (like wash and twists) before your wedding appointment so you will feel comfortable with her technique before your big day. Good luck!
