If you want to try Natural Resources for a wedding next month, you need to call immediately. From what I've heard an from my experience, even the consultations are booked at least 2 wks out. I had to cancel my consultation, so I'm not sure how long it takes to get the actual appointment.
I've heard awesome things if you're able to get in, though.

I'm coming to Houston for my bday and I wanted to get my hair straighten! I was recommended JC's Hair Salon! Have y'all heard good things about them? Just scared of heat damage just wanna make sure they have good reviews before I go!

@NaturalDOctor2Be I think I've heard about JC's Hair Salon myself. I may need to give them a try when I decide to straighten again. They have really good reviews on Yelp.com.

Whew! There's a lot going on in this thread. Okay, I've visited both Uncle Funky's Daughter and Natural Resources and I gotta tell you that I'm not overly impressed with either one. The prices at both salons are ridiculously high and there are parking issues at both locations. I didn't feel comfortable at either salon during the consultation and I didn't leave either salon feeling more educated about my hair. Honestly, I come out cheaper by taking care of my own hair. Like a lot of people, I was a bit intimidated by my natural hair texture, but as I got to know my hair and begin using certain techniques from tutorials that I saw on YouTube taking care of my own hair became a breeze.
Don't be afraid of your own hair. It's not as scary as some people make it out to be. Do your research and figure out what works for you. My current hair regimen is simple and easy. I don't spend nearly as long on my hair as I did when I was relaxed. Most importantly, taking care of my own hair saves me a lot of money. I've always hated depending on others when it comes to my hair. You're on the schedule of someone else who might not always be available when you need them. But hey if you can afford to spend a hundred or two on your hair once of twice a month, then more power to you. 😄 Last edited by Naivebeauty29; 10-12-2012 at 05:09 PM. |

Does anyone know of any salons in Houston, that gives lessons on how to take care of natural hair?

Natural Resources has boot camps a couple of times a year. Go to their website and get on their email list.

Its a Natural Hair Show coming up in the first weekend in Dec. They have classes on how to do natural hair. Of course for a fee but I think its worth it.
