Hello ladies,
I've been really wanting to color my hair. I have dark black hair and want to have highlights of brown in it. I don't want to go to a salon and not know what to expect or have my hair damaged. Has anyone done this to their hair? I want to go lighter...what are the steps and what products should I use to achieve this? I'm hoping to use natural products if at all possible. from my using CurlyNikki |

I have been trying to do the reds and my hair doesn't take it. Only at the roots. I was told I would have to do a lifter to lighten then color. My nephew who is a barber told me it could damage my hair which is a chance I'm not willing to take. My hair needs lots of moisture already and another stylist told me that lighter colors need lots of moisture as well...so that's all I know. HTH

Going from dark to light always requires some lifter type.. The one time I colored my hair I ended up getting majority of it cut off :-(.. Epic fail.. If there were natural non damaging products or powders that would be good.. But idk if there are

If your "dark black hair" is naturally that color, a henna may give you some reddish highlights. If it is dyed black, the only process I know is to lift the color, which could prove damaging

Thank you all ladies for your input. I guess I'll stick to my black hair. Bit a fan of the red hair.
