Default Post-color care

For those who took the leap and those considering permanent color, know that the chemistry of your hair is now in an altered state. All that means is it requires different things from when it did pre-color. One thing for sure: PROTEIN. Most of us of us naturals have plenty of protein in our hair, so it's something we shy away from. This is not one size fits all, but I implore you to give it a go if you've noticed your hair looks or feels different (besides the obvious change in color) post permanent color. It may not work for all and most of you may already know or tried this.

Once I colored my curly hair, I was so glad that I didn't throw out the bottle of Aphogee 3-minute reconstructer that I had used for post-relaxer recuperation a few months back. I needed it. Post color, I noticed my hair felt a bit dry and it wasn't as curly or soft as before. I tried all of the deep moisturizers in my arsenal to no avail...but then I remembered what my hair needed most post-color in my relaxer days and wondered if the same was true. Well, before three minutes of protein conditioning, I felt my curls spring back to life beneath my fingers.

I'm not planning on going permanent color again for awhile. Definitely waiting until my length is defined enough so that I don't over process the previously colored parts. I'm going gray and while it's a beautiful and natural process,I'm going to wait until I'm fully gray. It irks me just as much as the two textures did during my brief transition. But not coloring won't be an option for awhile, I'm still young enough that 99% of it is brown. Those pesky grays just have to be in the front where I can see them! Blah!
Anyway, my routine is much the same. I'm a literal wng girl. Shampoo, conditioner and go on days I shampoo. On other days, I use Roux Treatment and Shine leave-in to wet my hair and Paul Mitchell Foaming Pomade to style.

YES I COLOR MY HAIR AND I MAKE SURE TO DO A PROTEIN TREATMENT WITH MY APHOGEE PROTEIN AND BALANCE MOISTURE AFTER I GET DONE. IT KEEPS MY CURLS PRETTY AND SOFT . I ALSO DC WEEKLY, SINCE I'VE BEEN DOING IT SINCE TRANSITIONING.

How often should you "refresh" your permanent color ? Especially if you have those famous grays that seem to multiply!

Colored and highlighted with a stylist 6 weeks ago and I have a least an inch of growth ! Dnt wanna be "doin the most " and damage it !

If you are sensitive to it, I wouldn't.

Mine is about 6 weeks from my last application. I'm about to retouch mine.

I do my own color but I'm very cautious. I make sure I baby my hair before and after.

I didnt do a protein treatment after I colored , nor do I baby my hair after.coloring .
And ive dyed the front of my hair 4 times . Its a 2 toned type thing and I haven't noticed a diff in my hair since I started coloring besides growth
I guess everyone is diff .
I don't like doing protein treatments on my hair anymore .. It seems like nothing happens after I do it....

What conditioner and deep conditioner are you using for your color treated hair? I am experiencing some dryness.
