I'm taking my twists out. My ends are over here jumping ship because of lack of protein (I'm assuming), so this is counterproductive. Blehh, I'm gonna do "out" protective styles until I get a moisture/protein balance!

Did my protein treatment! I used 2 tbs of the Shea Moisture Anti-Breakage Masque, 1 tbs of Mayo, 2 tbs of Coconut Oil&some Grapeseed Oil. Now, I'm doing my first Bentonite Clay Mix
Im so excited!ETA: This mud/clay wash has my hair feeling like everythinggg! The curls are tricking me into wanting to do a wash&go for tomorrow! But, Im gonna be realistic (until November...) and do a twist out using my AIA Twist Defining Cream sample. Hope this stuff works! Forgot to show off, lol. So, as a personal trial, I put my hair in protective styles constantly for 3 weeks. I figured that if I could go 3 weeks without seeing my hair in natural curls, but in braids and twists then putting my hair in yarn braids and crotchet braids for months at a time during the winter wouldn't be so hard. It would have been a lot harder and I would've been so much more nervous about missing my hair versus now after I did it.
But, after the trial, my curls and ends are fine. They are healthy and shiny and in need of the DC that they are getting tonight after work.

So since the Facebook page hasn't updated a mini challenge I guess we can't start our own. Since most of us are already in protective styling challenges we'll do that here also. If you're in one go by its rules if not
-try to keep manipulation to a minimum -try to have a protective style at least 5 days a week (so through the week, be free on the weekend) -make sure to moisturize and seal (ends especially) when doing your protective styles -show us your styles and keep us updated. This will last until an official subchallenge starts. If you have any questions, just ask. Sent from my SCH-R720 using CurlyNikki App |

Here are the official rules to the protective style challenge:
The 3rd Sub Challenge is “Protective Styling” Runs from October 1, 2012 – March 30, 2013 This challenge is open to any and all - naturals, transitioning, relaxed, and anything in between. This challenge is to help you reap the full benefits of taking care of your hair and retaining most, if not all of your length. This is a great challenge to help promote, thicker, longer growing hair. Protective styling can be an important factor in your hair care regimen. It can help you retain length by keeping your ends intact, reducing the possibility of split ends. Protective styles lock in moisture, prevent breakage, put less stress on your hair, and offer very little manipulation. Follow these tips for protective styling and over time you will have added a lot of length. The end result of this challenge will be an overall improvement in the health of your hair and more length retention. Whether you're natural, relaxed or transitioning, can't we all benefit from more length? Requirements are simple: Wear hair in protective style. How often, you might ask???? v Low Level: 80% of the time (ex. wear hair out 2x a month) v Mid-Level: 90% of the time (ex. wear hair out 1x a month) v GOING HAM: 100% of the time (hair is protected all the time) Continue with the regular directions/regimen as listed above in this Healthy Hair Growth Challenge. You must allow your hair to breathe at least a week in-between your protective style installations. For example, wear a protective style for a month, take it down, leave your hair down for a week (with a low manipulation hairstyle) and then create your next protective style. Oiling your scalp is very necessary. So, oil your scalp as you please, but at least 1x per week. Moisturize & Seal at least 3x a week in between braids, twists or hair (if wearing a sew-in). Shampoo, deep condition your hair (alternating between moisturizing & protein treatments), along with a hot oil treatment at least every 2-4 weeks, especially before reinstallation of your next protective style. When hair is out of protective styles, only low manipulation styles should be worn. Absolutely NO WEAVES WITH GLUE!!!! Only braided sew-ins. Drink plenty of water. Must post pictures of your starting length on or around October 1, 2012 and your finishing length on or around March 30, 2013. OPTIONAL!!!! Do scalp massages at least 3x per week with Nappturalistic Beauty’s Hair Growth Serum Blend to boost your hair growths progress. The rules are pretty simple, but please feel free to adapt them as you need for YOUR hair. The main objective is that your hair is kept in protective styles throughout the 6-month period. Protective styling can be fun if you try new things. Feel free to add pictures & videos you come across to give everyone some new ideas on hairstyles. Also, post pictures of your very own hair when you try a new protective hairstyle. You most definitely can be cute while protecting the ends of your hair. Examples of Protective Styles: Buns, Braids, Flat Twist, Mini Twists, 2-Strand Twists, Box Braids, Senegalese Twists, Kinky Twists, Sew-Ins, etc. Please note that within these styles so much can be done. Let’s get creative and rock some cute protective styles. |
