Simplicity is key BUT if you have oily skin, skipping out on a moisturizer will cause your skin to produce more oil because it is aware that you're dry so it tries to compensate. Also be sure that you're not getting toner and astringents confused with each other. An astringent has alcohol in it and for people with sensitive skin, this could be problematic. A toner is more gentle. I actually like witch hazel.

It doesn't sound nasty, lol. Makes more sense to me now than it would have a few weeks ago... Soda and processed juices ALWAYS break me out.

I know exactly where you're coming from. Except... Everyone in my family has perfect skin! And I USED to. My acne issues started around 17... I've tried clearasil, neutrogena, proactive, Murad blah blah blah. And my skin seemed dependent/addicted... I hope you're able to simplify eventually

I thought witch hazel was classified as an astringent...?

I've always been on the oily side & washing with my Soapnut bar & skipping the other two steps of toning & moisturizing have actually been balancing my skin. It has been neither dry NOR oily.

Everything doesn't work for everybody. But I'm glad this is working for me

Hm...I like the thought of it, and I can understand why it works.
I think most drugstore products cause skin to get worse...which in turn makes you buy more products.. And then more..
It's a never ending cycle.
But that's drugstore stuff.

I don't think it's NECESSARY, to have a long regimen, but I personally like using serums/anti aging stuff, because.. Well, I don't want to regret not using them down the line.

Right now I'm experimenting with different "natural/organic" cleansers.

Toners/astringents aren't completely necessary, but I like using hydrating ones (such as rose water).
Homemade Vitamin C serum takes care of my anti-aging stuff, and then natural oils to moisturize.

But that's just me. When I was younger I didn't have to do much, but now I definitely at least need a cleanser and an oil.

The idea of a toner (chemistry-wise) makes sense... They're supposed to remove cleanser residue, close your pores and restore your skin's pH level. I will definitely experiment with rose water if I begin to experience dryness!

I had to comment on this. I just had this breaking moment that "less is best". I went to the dermatologist and he gave me a prescription for a topical gel and the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser to try. My WHOLE regimen has changed now since that appointment. In the morning I'm just washing with cetaphil now an moisturizing with neutrogena. And at night I'm washing with cetaphil, applying my prescription gel and moisturizing. My skin looks great. I just added in my routine exfoliating and deep cleaning with noxema original deep cleaning cream with just a washcloth. It's working wonders. LESS IS MORE!
