Can someone tell me the process of skin care? I am clueless. What comes first? Toning or cleansing or masking? Then what next? What the purpose of a mask and toner? Like I said I am clueless.

For years I have suffered with adult acne and hyperpigmentated areas after picking my acne. I went to the derm and was prescribed retinA. Big mistake! It made me break out and hyperpigmentation worse. Proactive was a nightmare. I went back to thr dermatologist and she started me on MD forte. It's a skin care line that is glycolic based and has levels I, II and III. I just started on level three and I have only two areas on my chin that are hyperpigmented. I also alternate between one 65% lactic acid peel and 30% glycolic peel weekly at home. I am getting more and more compliments. my goal is to be foundation free by the end of the year. MD Forte can be purchased through amazon. The cleanser is soap free which works best for me. I rub the cleanser on my face and leave on for about 20 mins. Water deactivates glycolic acid. after that, I use the face lotion. i also use a sunscreen with an spf of 70. For info on home peels, www.makeupartistschoice.com. The website and customer service are very helpful. Hope this helps!

My friend just made a REALLY good point about skin care.
I can't really go through everything we said, but basically he said I should consider using something prescribed so that once my skin is better I can use natural products to keep it at bay. So I'm considering it. How would I go about going to a dermatologist? I mean do I just look it up and find one around here orrr... (but I'm not trying to go immediately. I want to see if my skin improves over the next couple of weeks, so it probably won't be until the end of this month/early august) Sent from my iPhone using CurlyNikki |

Yes, u can look one uo in the telephone book or by word of mouth. Acne is a covered under most insurance plans, so I went to my medical insurance website and picked a derm that was under my plan. I pay only for my copays. most cream prescriptions are not covered, some are. Peels are considered cosmetic are not covered. most prescribed soaps like benzo peroxides are covered. I can't remember if retinA was covered. A good dermatologist will give plenty samples before do u can try the prescribed product first.

I have changed my regime a little. I am using a different cleanser. Neutragena cleansing scrub. So I don't use St. Ives anymore. I have also started toning with witch hazel and I have seen a huge difference. My skin feels so much better. I sweat most much moisturizer off so I don't use it as much anymore. Lastly I am going to start using tretnoin gel on Friday night. I will check back in to update.
