Default Set on loc-ing but have a TON of questions...

Ok...so I've been natural for about a year now. My original reason for going natural was to loc, got scissor happy and experimented all year.

Now my year is approaching and I'm ready for the plunge....here are my questions.

1.) can someone show me exactly what brick parting looks like? I want thicker locs and not that "scalpy" look.

2.) my sister who I am very close with wanted to start my locs (she's a cosmetologist, not a loctician)....by your best opinion how large should my bases be if I want locs as large as in the pic below

3.) she said she heard starting with beeswax was best....I've researched and found that its a BIG no-no. For those, if any, who re-twist/started with no gels do you just use water and moisturizer or what?!

Thanks so much for any help you guys can give! ^_^ Set on loc-ing but have a TON of questions...-imageuploadedbycurlynikki1348289244.595081.jpg

I'm only two months into my loc journey so I know there are others on here that can help even more. But here's my little advice

Here is a link for the different types of parting Parting Your Hair for Locks. My parts are diamond shaped because I didn't want the unified look of square parting.

My friend started my locs with 2-strand-twist and just a moisturizer. I retwist using aloe vera gel and a little oil. Aloe vera gel is the lightest oil I could find. It really doesn't take anything heavy to lock our hair. I went to a professional once a few weeks ago because I wanted a cute style for a wedding. She used aloe vera gel and she gave me a hot oil treatment.

The basics for what I have learned is don't use any heavy products, find a good oil for your scalp, and try not to re-twist too often.

I hope this helps.

The previous photos are from my last re-twist. I hate the "scalpy" look too so I only twist once a month. A week after the retwist the "scalpy" look goes away & I have a fuller look.

I'm attempting to start mine under kinky twists. I parted my hair and did my hair in two strand twists Set on loc-ing but have a TON of questions...-imageuploadedbycurlynikki1349338366.593673.jpg and I used marley braid hair for kinky twists because I'm not comfortable with the length :/ Set on loc-ing but have a TON of questions...-imageuploadedbycurlynikki1349338403.326424.jpg
