I finally tried a bentonite clay wash yesterday! Oh. My. Gosh. I had super clean, shiny, & defined curls. I'm a believer now! & I'm officially done looking for a cleanser. This is it! Even my silicone laden conditioners & serums were removed. My hair did feel a skosh squeaky clean, though, so I might add more oil next time.

Whew girl those curls! Looks great. I'm doing a mudwash today whenever I get the energy to get out of the bed lol.

Thanks! I can't believe how good it looks! I slept on it, and even though it shrunk a lot, it still looks pretty defined. God was thinking of us curlies when He made clay

Ladies I'm really sorry about not posting my recipe yet. I've had a crazy busy week and haven't had the chance to look at my book.

Clay is the best product I have discovered since going natural. And the funny thing is a hairdresser told me about it who does not do natural hair.
I would always do a DC after doing a clay wash. That squeaky clean feeling probably means you need to add oil, but clay is a detox process. Enjoy!

I find rhassoul and French red clay to be very conditioning. They don't absorb as much as bentonite so I put them in my dc

@Jojo: What do you do as a DC after your clay wash? I was thinking of pureeing an avocado & adding honey, EVOO, EVCO, grapeseed oil, & some of my regular conditioner. That'd work, right?
I think I also needed to leave it in for a shorter amount of time. I planned for 30 minutes, but I was watching Fraiser so it ended up sitting in my hair for almost an hour

@Anointed: So you use bentonite as a cleanser, & Rhassoul as more of a conditioner? What do you mix with the Rhassoul? How long do you leave it in? I like to leave my DCs in overnight, but that doesn't seem like it'd be good to leave clay in that long.

I decided to give it a whirl today anyway and oh mah lawd, this is nice. I haven't rinsed yet but just the application was awesome. Before I was mixing my bentonite with coconut milk. Today I used 4tbs of clay, 2tbs of Shea Moisture raw shea butter restorative conditioner, and then just added the liquid black soap until it was a good consistency.

My trusted dc is as follows: 2oz RO conditioner, 1oz coconut oil, 1oz honey, 1 tblsp each rhassoul and red French clay. Blend and apply. I like thick batter consistency. But play around to get the consistency you like. This yields a little over 4 oz and I use all of it each time. You can make more and refrigerate it. When you take a portion out each time just slightly warm it (not hot) to soften for easy application.

SN: If you have/want dark hair, use less honey and more coconut oil, or replace with glycerine. Honey is a natural lightener of you use enough and over a long enough time. It has a small amount of natural peroxide in it. This is why I was doing it over the summer. It's not dramatic but you want jet black hair I wouldnt use.

That sounds about right with the measurements. You can add glycerine (tiny bit) or marshmallow tea for more slip and better application. If your hair feels striped at all add a light oil to bring the ph up OR dilute more with water OR dilute the black soap more before adding to clay mix.
