I finally tried a bentonite clay wash yesterday! Oh. My. Gosh. I had super clean, shiny, & defined curls. I'm a believer now! & I'm officially done looking for a cleanser. This is it! Even my silicone laden conditioners & serums were removed. My hair did feel a skosh squeaky clean, though, so I might add more oil next time.

Ladies I'm really sorry about not posting my recipe yet. I've had a crazy busy week and haven't had the chance to look at my book.

I would always do a DC after doing a clay wash. That squeaky clean feeling probably means you need to add oil, but clay is a detox process. Enjoy! |

I find rhassoul and French red clay to be very conditioning. They don't absorb as much as bentonite so I put them in my dc

@Jojo: What do you do as a DC after your clay wash? I was thinking of pureeing an avocado & adding honey, EVOO, EVCO, grapeseed oil, & some of my regular conditioner. That'd work, right?
I think I also needed to leave it in for a shorter amount of time. I planned for 30 minutes, but I was watching Fraiser so it ended up sitting in my hair for almost an hour ![]() @Anointed: So you use bentonite as a cleanser, & Rhassoul as more of a conditioner? What do you mix with the Rhassoul? How long do you leave it in? I like to leave my DCs in overnight, but that doesn't seem like it'd be good to leave clay in that long. I decided to give it a whirl today anyway and oh mah lawd, this is nice. I haven't rinsed yet but just the application was awesome. Before I was mixing my bentonite with coconut milk. Today I used 4tbs of clay, 2tbs of Shea Moisture raw shea butter restorative conditioner, and then just added the liquid black soap until it was a good consistency.

SN: If you have/want dark hair, use less honey and more coconut oil, or replace with glycerine. Honey is a natural lightener of you use enough and over a long enough time. It has a small amount of natural peroxide in it. This is why I was doing it over the summer. It's not dramatic but you want jet black hair I wouldnt use. |
