I posted this the other day & didn't get feedback. Maybe I posted in the wrong place? Decided I'd try once more. Appreciate any help!
So, yesterday I purchased a jar of organic, virgin coconut oil from Trader Joe's. I'm super excited to use & cannot wait to reap the benefits. But there's only one problem- I have no idea how to use it in the manner that I'd prefer( insert sad face here). I know many folks use it as a pre-poo & as a detangling aid. But I'd prefer to use it to seal and/or enhance my moisturizing routine. Using it as a stand alone really makes my hair hard- irrespective of the climate/season/temperature. Anyone on here ever mix it with other oils to enhance their moisturizing routine or perhaps as a sealant combined with other oil goodies? Pray do tell!!! One final thing, my hair is low-po, fine strands, incredibly dense/thick, coarse, 4b/4c hair type. Any curlies who fit somewhere in this type & have experienced great benefits from coconut oil and/or who concoct their own mixture to aid in moisturizing would be greatly appreciated!! |

I use coconut oil for hot oil treatmentss weekly and do not rinse it out. It definitely will keep your hair moisturized, soft, and shiny.

Just make sure it completely seeps into your hair during cooler days or it will solidify on your hair and make it feel hard and stringy.

I use it as a pre poo but I also mix it with shea butter/jbco/olive oils... as an everyday moistureiser I melt it all together and it does harden but as soon as it touches my skin it melts quickly and I live in the midwest and the climates not an issue with it and I have 4a/3c in the back combination

I love coconut oil! I mix into an applicator bottle with castor, olive, & sweet almond oil and do scalp massages and stuff. It's great. I also pre-poo with just coconut oil and add it to my deep conditioners.

I use coconut oil at night and leave it on until the next morning. Then rinse it out with just water, no shampoo.

I use it in an oil mix with olive oil and peppermint essential oil as a pre poo/scalp massage. I also heat it up and add it to my DC. Makes my hair super soft

I allow this baby to do what it do all on its own. I do NOT mix any other product with my over priced organic coconut. After the shampoo i apply it to my scalp and massage vigorously afterwards I place a plastic cap on my head and since my hair is wet I allow the remaining parts to catch the oil that runs from my scalp once the heat kicks in from the plastic I leave mines on for about 20 mins then I rinse with warm water, then I use another organic conditioner just for the smell but not really needed.....Organically Soft!
