I only mix shea butter with coconut oil and use a hand-mixer. Turns out perfect every time. I definitely think you used too much oil.

When I make my mix, I melt it first in a double boiler, add oils, then blend with a blender over an ice bath. Am I the only one who uses heat??

I didn't use heat I don't know if that's a problem the Shea butter was pretty soft at room temp. Should melt it first?

My first time making shea butter mix it turned out like tht. What I did wrong the first time was: 1. I melted the shea butter instead of SOFTENING it and 2. I Added tooo much extra oil. The oils are suppose to be an enhancement only. This means is should be waaaay more shea then there is extra oil.

This time around I softened the shea in the microwave (just soft enough to manipulate). Then added about a teaspoon each of castor oil, olive oil and africas best herbal oil. Then I mixed vigourously until smooth and fluffy.

Basically, add more shea butter so it can be a proper ratio of shea to oil, which for me is 90:10.

I know this may sound, but I have never used actual Shea Butter, or any butter for that matter. I've always bought hair products that have Shea Butter, but have never actually used Shea Butter in the raw.

How do you use it?

Probably for five minutes total, I make a lot and I use the blender's whip button. Did you get it how you wanted it?
