Default Good sealant or moisturizer for high humidity?

I have a few curl patterns all in the 4 category. Dense fine strands that look wavy-curlyish when wet, poofyness and massive shrinkage when dry. I am very lazy about moisturizing my hair because it is dense and I usually have to use a lot of product for it to be effective (I was not looking at the ingredients in products then but I do now) but when I do, my hair behaves better (more smooth, less frizz, easier to comb through and less shrinkage).

Shea butter does wonders for my hair. I used it once before. I separated my hair in sections and glided the butter on from end to root. I did this when my hair was dry. Is shea butter a sealant? I want to use it correctly. The effects lasted one day on my hair.

Also, I was thinking of making a sealant (or is it a moisturizer?) mix composed of shea butter whipped with a tiny bit of either olive oil or castor oil. Should I use olive oil or castor oil or something else? I am broke so I want to keep things on the cheaper end of the spectrum. I want the mix to make my hair less frizzy and keep it moisturized in high levels of humidity. If the mix is not a moisturizer, I will dampen my hair and then add it. Would this mix be good to use after I wash my hair without a conditioner or used only as a refresher?

I have read that both olive oil and castor oil have good things in them (lol) and penetrate the hair shaft. Castor oil promotes thickness and I do not want my crown any thicker than it is. Although, I could stand for my ends to be thicker/stronger... I know I have a lot of questions. I appreciate any feedback!

Yes I definitely recommend the Shea Butter mix with olive oil (I've never used castor personally, but it you like it go for it). If you want to seal with it I recommend leaving it on after you condition your hair, but I like it on dry hair too. My night routine on days I don't wash my hair is to spritz it with water and apply the sealant.

Another good moisturizer to try (if you're okay with using it) is a silicone serum. Heavy, non-water soluble silicones like dimethicone and cyclomethicone are great for sealing your moisturizers in and keeping humidity out. A great serum I use is Fantasia Frizz Buster. It's almost the consistency of honey, but a little goes a long way, and the results last for days. HTH!

+1 on the silicones. I haven't seen frizz since I started using them.

Your shea bitter mix is a sealant, since you said you're broke you could use it on top of water (the cheapest moisturizer!)
As for the oil to mix with the Shea butter, it depends on what your hair likes best. I prefer castor oil. I haven't tried any silicone serums yet but another cheap and effective sealant is good ol' grease! I like coconut blue magic.
