Hey Curlies
I was looking at some of products we curlies spend a lot of time looking for online and in stores. I realized some of these are things I've been making in my kitchen for years. I make all my personal use preparations in small amounts because I like to change the recipe now and then depending on what I need. Here are some of the easier ones. Anti-Itch oil 1.5 ounces of Smart Balance Oil - Yes, this is found in the cooking oil section. It is a blend of canola, olive, soy and vitamin e oils. I have found that it has a very nice skin feel. Light, not too greasy and very little odor. You won't smell like fried food or anything. It makes an excellent carrier oil. 1 teaspoon of meadowfoam oil, 1 teaspoon of borage oil - These oil are optional, I just like the lightness and richness of their feel. You can add any high quality expensive oil like argan, neem, Calendula, Cranberry seed, etc. It all depends on the benefits you are looking for. I only use a small amount because these oils and extracts don't require large amounts to be effective. 5 drops of tea tree oil - again, you don't need much because you don't need the tingle for this to work. The small amount means you won't smell medicinal. Mix and use. I like to use a qtip to apply directly to my scalp. Hair, face and body refresher (bug repellent) Put in a spray bottle and shake well to use. You can eliminate the aloe if you like. The oil mix is my take on a bug repellent because I am allergic to the store bought ones. The fragrance is light, fresh and does not linger. I keep mine in the fridge. You can add different fragrance or essential oils, just keep the amounts small unless you are looking for a perfumed water. 4 ounces of distilled water or 4 ounces of rose water. 1/2 ounce Aloe Vera Juice 2 drops each of lavender essential oil, tea tree oil, peppermint oil. Face refresher and toner 2 ounces of Witch hazel - its okay to use the one from the drug store with the least amount of alcohol. 2 or 3 drops of tea tree oil. Put in a bottle, shake and use a cotton ball to gently wipe the face and neck. Keep this away from your eyes. Especially good before a good moisturizer but after washing away makeup. Anybody else want to share recipes?
