Recently I ordered some Rajasthani henna (didn't know the color was dark brown) and I'm not even sure where to start. I've heard I should use lemon juice, vinegar, strong tea, and honey to help it release. But am I supposed to use all of the above? Add water? I'm clueless.
What do you ladies commonly use when applying henna? How long do you let it sit in the fridge/ on your hair? I have about 200 grams. I am slightly worried about color because I bought it mainly for conditioning reasons. My hair is already brown, I'm hoping it doesn't stain it super dark. ( I am not well with extra dark hair, it looks fake on me idk why) But one or two applications shouldn't cause this right? Thanks for all your help ladies, I appreciate any feedback on this!oh & Here's how dark my hair already is.

Unless you want hay for hair, I strongly advise against lemon juice! Vinegar too. You really don't need anything to make the dye release except time. The day before you intend to henna, mix it and allow up to 12 hours before use. Water will easily do the trick. My base mix is: Jamila henna and strong green tea. But I do glosses, so I add ample amounts of conditioner.
But if you're worried about color then you should worry about the release. The "release" is the dye, not some conditioning property. You can bypass the release altogether by mixing with water and applying with no wait time in between. Also, if you just want the conditioning aspects, you only need to keep it in your hair from 30 mins - 1 hour tops. |

And you're very welcome. I actually just did a gloss today, so I guess you could say I'm in the henna spirit!

You could also try apple juice. But the green tea works wonders too. Good luck on your henna application. Post pics please.

NaturalLee, Red Zinger tea is also a great tea to use for henna and has good dye release. The hibiscus helps to bring up the red tones and eliminate the "orangey color."
Just mix your henna with warm tea. Cover and leave in a dark place for about 8 hours. Apply to clean hair, wrap with plastic and let it sit 4-6 hours. Rinse out well and co-wash and DC with protein-free conditioners. Enjoy! |

NaturalLee, I forgot to stress: use WARM liquid and not hot. Hot liquid will burn your henna.
