Congrats and welcome Bella! Your experience sounds very inspiring. Just curious....is Bella your first?

@Msaryanna, air-ianna me and my boyfriend just really loved that name

question for any breastfeeding moms- what do you do to get through the times when you feel like giving up and switching to formula? I'm at that point right about now
Why do you want to give up? Is she having a problem latching? Are you feeling overwhelmed?

For me, formula feeding wasn't an option in my mind. I was determined to breastfeed. I even visited a lactation clinic a few times to make sure I was doing it right.

I had MAJOR shedding. My edges (which I am always so protective of) disappeared. I'm sure it's something hormal because the little one was born with a head full of hair, and now her edges are thin in same spots. She's about 6 months now and they are growing back in,

I looked at that time as an opportunity for me to bond with my son and to give him nourishment. We were both new to each other. What specific issues are you having if you don't mind sharing. Good luck!

She's not latching at all! When I was in the hospital, she only latched onto my left breast, but unfortunately it became sore, and cracked, so I had to nurse from my right breast. Up until yesterday, all she's been taking is my right breast, but it got really sore and I had to give her formula. Now when I try to feed her from either one, she just licks and doesn't latch. I'm so frustrated

It's both! I know she's not getting enough milk without me having to give her formula. I thought it was a problem with my supply and that was the reason why I wanted to give up, but now since I've given her formula, she just doesn't latch at all. I had a nurse watch me feed her when I was in the hospital and she said everything was fine, she CAN latch but she isn't doing it, and I've been up all night upset and frustrated because she cries and there's nothing I can do about it, but give her formula. I really wanted to breastfeed her, she isn't even 2 weeks yet and I guess I have to throw in the towel now

I had that problem with my oldest and youngest. With the youngest i was more determined. Went out and bought this thing from Target. I think it's called a nipple shield. You put it over your nipple to pull your nipple out. It acts like a bottle nipple, forcing then to put their mouth all the way over it and getting a good latch. And it's softer like a bottle nipple. Maybe your baby will be able to adjust to that and allow you to nurse easier. After about a week I didn't need it anymore.

Even of you can't breastfeed her don't throw in the towel all together. I know it's a pain, but many women are exclusive pumpers. That way your little one is still getting the breast milk since you don't have an issue with supply. My daughter went through that stage for a week or so and then one day she just went back to nursing with no problem. Don't get frustrated because they can sense it. Just take it easy and be patient.

Even if she won't latch you can always pump so she can still get the "liquid gold" breast milk. Most of all enjoy this time bonding with your baby more than anything. Relax when trying to get her to latch on. If you are tense she will feel it and that may make feedings difficult. You can see if there are any breast feeding support classes at your hospital. Hope this helps!

Finally got a bfp and I'm approximately 5 1/2 weeks. This forum is so much more positive than the others I've seen. I've been so nervous and scared. I'm hoping my first appt goes well on 7may. I feel so much better though after seeing these post. This is definitely what I'll be following now!
