And when did you moms start introducing solids to your baby? I don't plan on pumping for storage/work/daycare (I'm going to be a SAHM). Will I have to start pumping inorder to introduce solids like cereal in his milk bottle?
My pediatrician recommend starting solids at 5 months. I didn't put food in my son's bottle. I feed him from a spoon then nurse him or give him a bottle of breast milk.

My mom works at a daycare with the babies and she HATES when the parents put cereal in the bottles. She said it's hard for the baby to tell when they're full when they are drinking their food and often they over eat and end up throwing up.

Hi everyone and congrats to the new mommies. I breasted and pumped for one year. At which timey son wiened himself. I started light solids infrequently at 6 months (banana, rice cereal) and by 9 months he was eating baby food. I worked but only two days the first year so he didn't get a lot of bottle. Around 9 months I began giving him a smoothie type thing that he loved and continued and eventually replaced the milk when I stopped feeding. 1/3 rice cereal or oat cereal; 1/3 puréed fruit ; 1/3 hot water. Shake and let cool to warm. I tried a bunch of different formula but he never took to any of them.

My son is now 2 and extremely healthy and has had very few colds, no ear infections or any other child hood disease.

Sophia cluster fed until she was past 7# but she continued to nurse every 3 hours for the first few months. I introduced solids when she was almost 5 months. I never put cereal I'm her bottle. The pedi said it was confusing and dangerous. Confusing because baby needs to learn that food is eaten and milk is drunk and when you combine the two they don't know how to regulate. Dangerous because babies can choke on thickened milk and he doesn't approve if it whether breast or formula fed. Maybe you can for your pedi's advice on it. I did make Sophia's cereal with breast milk at first but then felt like it was just a waste of milk. She was still drinking it and I was able to save myself the hassle. ad a SAHM you have it a lot easier with the pumping gig. Pump some milk to get some breaks while daddy gives a bottle an then when hrs old enough you and daddy can go out on a date while he stays with someone you trust and he will be able to take the bottle!

I'm wondering because I HAVE TO go back to work and after reading your post, I wonder if I should get an early start in case I run into a road block.
Anyway, I'm glad with all of this you still started your post with "it is a real joy"
I actually started at a week old because I could not leave the house and she had lots of testing my momma took her to. I started early and was but successful

I breasted my kids and my daughter I was sooooo depressed when I weaned them off. I had to return to work...No one understood my sadness. My daughter is breast feeding her son ( now 16 months old)... It is the absolute best thing for mommy and baby!

I breastfed my daughter until she was 2 years old. I worked full time and was also going to school part time. I used a medela double pump and pumped at work for a whole year. Then when she was 1 I stopped the pump! Lol... that made it soo much easier. I breastfed her only when I was at home...then I started doing it at night only, until her 2nd birthday. Stay with it. It is so beneficial for both parties. I heard so much slack from people about breastfeeding my toddler with teeth. But my daughter had teeth from 3 months on, so I definitely wasn't scared of her teeth! Stick with it!

Has any ever had to deal with their milk supply decreasing? If so what did you do to increase it?

Hi Shay, milk supply is usually based upon frequency of feelings and amount during feelings. It is normal to produce .5 to 1 oz per hour. If you'd like to increase you can do a couple of things: drink more water. I drank almost a gallon a day and pumped every 3-4 hrs but I pumped to store. The more you feed/pump the more you're sending the message to your body that you're baby needs a supply to eat, thus increased production; you can also try products such as Mother's milk or finigreet. I nursed for 16 months an that's how I made it happen for me. If you happen I have access to a lactation consultant check her out. She will give you a lot of great info about nursing. I hope I've helped.

Hey mommies! I am breastfeeding as well. My daughter is 10.5 months old and we have been successfully breastfeeding since she was 6 weeks old. In the beginning it was rough! My milk didn't come in until about a week or so after birth, she was jaundice so I had no choice but to formula feed after 24 hours. I couldn't even express any colostrum. I kept her at the breast ALL the time and when she wasn't at the breast I was pumping.

We also had trouble with a proper latch bc she had "tongue tie" and needed her frenulum clipped. I was too chicken to get it done and waited weeks to see if there was any improvement BUT there wasn't. My nipples were SO sore, I couldnt go a full 24 hours of nursing w/out my nipples feeling like they were about to fall off. At 6 weeks I got it done, very quick, took 5 seconds max and we've been great ever since. She latched immediately. All those days of crying, feeling like a failure, extreme frustration were over.

I love breastfeeding and plan to go at least a year. I'm open to going 2 years max though. I love it and so does my baby lol. I don't see myself cutting her off from her milkies any time soon lol.
