Any Yoginis?
Does anyone do yoga as their sole or primary method of exercise? I am athletic and attempt to workout at least three times a week - usually running, exercise tapes and light weights. I am starting to feel like my body is getting to "Old" for all of the running and the such and am looking for a low impact way of maintaining.

Hey!!! I usually incorporate yoga into my routine, but as of late I haven't :/ I have just been so busy with school, work and other activities that I barely have time to play tennis for an hour a week. You know, I should try harder to put yoga back in my schedule...i see the benefits in my skin when i do yoga!!

yoga is awesome and life changing. i practice from 3-5 times a week. there are various forms and it is challenging. power yoga and ashanta or ashanga (i'm not sure of the exact name) has me sweating profusely but i also enjoy the stretching vinyasa types as well. the only type i didn't enjoy was bikram..different strokes - i sweat enough naturally
.
so many people sleep on it b/c its not high impact and a bunch of jumping up and down. shoot, that was me 8 years ago until i was prompted from a roommate to try it out. i was hooked even though years before my closest friends couldn't talk me into joining them (at least consistently). i also enjoy running, step, cycling, boot camp style classes, and i find that yoga is a wonderful compliment to them. it really has a mind/body/spirit component, increases flexibility, and balance. my triceps, shoulders, back, abs, and thighs have become more toned as a result of yoga! your breath also affects the intensity of your yoga practice. i definitely recommend you add it to your current routine.

I do yoga twice a week and I think its one of the best workout routines. It not only helps with the body but the mind and soul as well! On a bad day Yoga really helps turn my attitude around. I think we should all take an advantage and participate in some kinda workout routine

Yoga is my only physical activity when it comes to exercise. I started practicing after I gave birth to my second daugther 1 year ago and never stopped. I usually practice 2 to 3 times a week.. that is what helped with shed all the baby weight.
Hope you give it a try

I practice yoga once a week, but am going to try to bump it up to 3 times per week. I've been practicing for 8 years, and it has really helped my mind, body, and soul. I'm not very fond of the gym, so I sought out an exercise program that was geared toward my personal goals and that would be fun and motivating. Getting into a class is better for me than wathching a DVD because it's so much more motivating and fun to practice yoga with a group. I love it.

I do yoga once a week but I'm going to make it two. It's really helpful.
After a hour of yoga, I'm wide awake and ready to tackle the rest of my day. Look forward to seeing how it goes for you.

I've been into yoga for the past few years. Currently, with my job, mba studies, and family, I don't really find as much time to practice any more, but when I do, the benefits are insurmountable.
I would like to share a pretty cool resorce for those of you who'd like to fit a quick session in on the go. Check out yogadownload.com. They have quite a few different classes to choose from, ranging from 20 minutes in length to 90 or 100 minutes. All the 20 minute classes are free, too, wgich is a nice bonus.
Check it out.

Re: Any Yoginis?
I have been seriously practicing Yoga for 18 months now. I skipped a session the last 7 weeks to save $$$ for Christmas. And I cannot tell you how I am waiting for Jan 5 for the next session to start. In the absence of regular practice, I have noticed more stiffness and difficulty staying focused. I did/do yoga once a week in studio, once at home and then any physical activity I could fit in as a third workout and I felt like I had loads of energy. If done properly, you can reap physical, mental and spiritual benefits. I should also mention, I did yoga at the YMCA and with video tapes before training under a seasoned Yogi. Big difference. The former was more like intense stretching and studio yoga has changed how I respond to my body and my mind when I things get out of whack. I highly recommend it. It is the best self care I have committed to in a long time.

Re: Any Yoginis?
yes! I am going 3xs a week now. I just started back after about a year hiatus. It will definitely help with your entire mind, body and spirit. I can't wait to see the changes in my life.
I agree with those you posted the real classes are more interestign than the DVDs. I tried doing just the DVDs and I couldn't motivate myself. Also finding the right style for you/your body is key. I was doing Hatha and would always find it boring. I am now doing anusara/jivamukti/vinyasa mixed and i'm like WOW!
I have alos noticed that I prefer yoga taught at a yoga studio vs the gym. It just seems more aunthentic to me. Everytime I've done a yoga class at the gym I didn't care for it.

Hi Fellow Curlistas and Yoginis!
I love YOGA, honestly it is the. Only exercise that gives me a good workout (head to toe) and makes me break a sweat. I started my freshman year in college (05) and have continued my practice up until recently. I went to school in Florida and the weather was so nice I could attend classes and practice on the beach. But now living in southern maryland its hard for me to find a yoga studio here, although they are plentiful in DC and northern VA....I don't always want to drive that distance, so I try to keep up with practicing on my own and maybe catching a class or two every now and then.

I too LUV Inhale. Like you dior diva I am not a full fledged yogini, but I like the music and the overall vibe of inhale. I don't think I would have gotten into doing yoga regularly without this
show. Seeing people of all all skill levels and Steve's off the wall jokes and comments helps me not take myself too seriously while trying to contort into positions that my body is not accustomed to. Yoga provides a much more intense workout than I expected, but I dig it!
For anyone that cares to check it out, "Inhale" comes on the oxygen network in the WEEEE hours of the morning... I dvr then and do them when time permits.
