Post Chicoro Method

Chicoro, author of Grow It: How To Grow Afro-Textured Hair To Maximum Lengths In The Shortest Time & fotki fame, suggests a certain method for retaining length. The issue with afro-textured hair is not that our hair does not grow, but we do not retain the length. She offers the following advice on fotki.

First, moisturize with water or aloe based product
Second, apply oil based product
Lastly, apply cream based product

Currently, I moisturize with conditioner, most recently Giovanni's 50-50. Following that, I applied Hairveda's Vatika Frosting. Lastly, I apply MyHoneyChild's Honey Cream.

Is she the same lady that suggests moisturizing your hair with water several times a week or am I mistaking her for someone else?

I have got to read that book. Thanks for sharing about it. I can't buy it right now so I'll look for it in the library.

I use these steps and I've found that's the only way to keep my hair moisturizer. I've been using them pretty much since I became natural and joined CN. Chrs I think was you who shared this. I think these steps have been instrumental to my growth retention.

Products I usually use:

Leave In- KCKT mix, YTCucumbers, GDLI (although I think it's too thick for this step)
Oil- coconut oil is my favorite right now
Creamy- usually my creamy styling product such as Afroveda Cocolatte or Hemp Seed Butter, DB Madagascar Vanilla Styling Cream

I also additionally seal my ends with Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade.

For Shea moisture here's how I plan to use these:

Leave in- DT Masque (some left in with rinse), Moisture Retention Conditioner, or Curl and Style Milk
Oil- Shea Butter Elixir
Creamy- Curl Enhancing Smoothie

I must read her book asap! I tuned in to blogtalkradio the other night, as Chicoro was a guest on the napputalite radio show. She said a lot of great things about retaining length! That is my goal to retain as much length as possible, from here til the end of the year. I want to see growth! So I'm doing a lot of protective styling right now as a starter. She also talked about her method for washing natural hair. I thought it was quite interesting....so yes, I will be getting her book soon! Have any of you seen growth using her methods?

Hi Chrs!!! But I thought you are supposed to seal with an oil LAST!??? If you use an oily product and THEN a cream product, wouldn't the cream product just slide off and not penetrate the hair shaft? I always do it the other way around and make oil the last to go on to seal in all the moisture.....???

Default I love Chicoro!

I have been a fan of hers for years through her fotki. She has an e-mail that she sends out to subscribers with her tips for healthy hair. By the way, I did not know she was on a radio show. I am so mad I missed it!
