Re: Castor oil and edges
This may seem a little extreme but I bought the Jamaican Black Castor Oil last week and it came literally in 2-3 days. And I lie to you not, my hair has already thickened. I started using it on friday and its only monday and i already notice a difference. I'm not giving the JBCO all the glory but...i don't know lol. The smell isn't that bad, and i like the consistency of it too. I know this will be a keeper
Thanks for the suggestions

Well this Jamaican Black Castor Oil sounds interesting I wonder how it will stack up against Cold Pressed Castor Oil from the health food store. Well I going to do a test since I can easily get both locally. First I will use the CPCO (not to be mistaken for drug store castor oil which is often refined) for a month then I will give the JBCO a try for the next month and see if there is any differences.
Wish me luck. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Castor oil and edges
I recently purchased JBCO for my edges. I put it on, after applying conditioner, as a sealant. I know that my edges have grown, but I'm not for sure if it's just because I started taking care of them or if it's because of the oil. Makes you wonder huh?

Re: Castor oil and edges
Yeah It does. I find once I started taking care of my edges and make sure that they were not ignored or pulled too tight they started growing normally without the addition to anything new solution or product. whether the castor oil works, I don't know, up to now I have only been using castor oil as a sealant for the ends of my hair.

Re: Castor oil and edges
I've recently let castor oil become one of my best friends! LOL! I joined in with some other curlies on this site to do a 3 month Castor Oil challenge (check out the thread in the Grow Long section). I started using it last week and I love the way it moisturizes my hair! Im hoping to see more growth, and thickness around my hairline! I have the Home Health brand from the Vitamin Shoppe. The bottle is pretty big, so Im sure it will last me a while, but once that is used up, I definitely want to try the JBCO! I see where everybody has been talking about how great it is!

I can say, since I started sealing my ends with castor oil, I've seen less shedding when I wash and style. It's great stuff!

Re: Castor oil and edges
Okay. I just bought JBCO from my BSS. I'm worried about the smell. Will it go away? I don't want to walk around smelling like I just walked out of a cigar bar. I have some lavender i may put a couple drops in.

Re: Castor oil and edges
Hey everyone, you can get the CO at Whole Foods for about $5-7. You want the cold pressed cold processed. This is what the bottle looks like http://www.pharmaca.com/products/castor-oil. A little goes a LONG way. It's thick like honey so you can divide it in half and add jojoba oil so it will be easier to wash out. I was reading some other forums and they suggested putting the the scalp 1x or 2x per week before shampoos the night before. The one I got from WF doesn't really have a smell and it's slightly yellow tinted (not sure about the Jamaican one). It's 100% pure CO.
I am just trying it out but I am thinking of putting it on my scalp and then mix in w/ a conditioner for overnight deep conditioning and shampoo in the mornings then possibly adding only a tiny bit to the scalp. My hair sticks together to much w/ an overload of oils so I hope this works!

Hey everyone,
I am a reader of the site but I hardly comment. I had to comment this time though!
I have been using JBCO-a random brand I found in a West Indian store, on the back of my hair for about a month. I have locks and I have breakage and thinning at the back of my hair. No exaggeration, in the month I have been using JBCO on my hair I have an inch+ growth where it was pretty much bald. I am so happy I found something that works, I have been battling with this issue from when I had relaxed hair.

I apply it pretty often, I don't have a strict routine but usually everyday directly on the scalp or at least every other day.

Re: Castor oil and edges
Does the JBCO actually stimulate growth at the temples or nape?
anyone have pictures of proof of that? How long did it take? How times a week do you apply the JBCO? Daily?

Re: Castor oil and edges
It did for me..I was going to take before pics but honestly I was really embarrassed and kinda scared at how bad it looked. I can tell it grew because I have locs and some of them were thinning really badly at the back but now the hair is growing back in and the roots are getting really thick.

Re: Castor oil and edges
Brainiac, you can apply JBCO daily. I also have seen it thicken my thinning crown area. I have a mixture of 3A to 3C hair in that area and it has been very thin. Since I've used JBCO it has thickened nicely. I don't use it daily, but I have added it to a few things that I use. So imagine if I used it daily. I would suggest the investment; which isn't much, and trying it.

Re: Castor oil and edges
SisterBoyd do use it everyother day? Did feel a tingle sensation like it was stimulating your scalp? How did it take for tell it was thicking your thinning crown. Is crown the temple areas. Because thats where i have thinning at.
