I've had "what you got going on with your hair?" "I can't believe you lasted that long!" "is that your real hair?" "oh my gosh it's so soft!" really how is it supposed to feel!!!! I just laugh. Those comments never bothered me though.

Although I've 'em all, the one that stands out the most is a customer walks in, sits at my desk and immediately says, "Oooo, I see you have heat damage too!" I say "Excuse me???" She says, you have heat damage like me. I say I don't use heat on my hair, she proceeds to give me a dumb look and says well, your hair just must have to get used to being natural. I'm like, uummm, I've been natural for 8 mos now. Shea like reeeaalllyy, well I don't know then. I'm like, you don't know then, sweetie, my hair is just straight in the front like this, my wholr head is about 4 diff textures, but anyway how can I help you????? Even in the middle if us taking care of her business, she feels the need to continue trying to figure my hair out by saying, u know what? If you do a protein treatment like aphogee, that might help. From that point, she shut up about it cause I'm pretty sure the look on my face told her that was her best option, lol

Wearing a big fluffy twist out, one of my best ones at that, and my coworkers boyfriend saying, 'can I touch it?' At first I'm like, -__-, but I thought what the heck and let him touch. Fingers all up in my scalp, he could've been giving me a scalp massage! I was just like, never again.

@ Kinky~In~Two~Ways , I heard the same comment from my mom two weeks ago. I told her "I'm letting it grow"
My sister has a friend who went natural and has said the same things to the friend. She even said the good old "good hair" comment. And I agree about "I couldn't do it" comment. Can't do what? Let your hair grow and learn how to properly care for it without a relaxer? I also once got the "nigger/Negro" hair comment in high school when I was relaxing my hair. This one came from a guy. I visited a friend and my hair hadn't been touched up. I walked up to the porch and the first thing he said was "Woahhh.... You've got that good Negro slave hair"*pats my new growth* But yet he used to say "I hate girls with fake hair." Mmmm....kay. |
