Default Working out and hair

So im sure this topic has been addressed many a time but i have a different sort of situation. I play rollerderby and practice 3+ times a week which means that every day or two my head is in a helmet that fits snug. Very snug. A little TOO snug. Im struggling with adjusting my helmet size according to my hair growth. I am currently in an XL helmet and i dont think they go any bigger but my head is busting out of this thing! I have already had to go up a size since starting the sport since my hair was about 1/2 inch long then. Its nearing APL now and it gets BIG. I usually wear two french braids on practice days but still not enough. My forehead was actually numb the other day from the pressure. A lot of the black girls who play are natural and gave me advice to do twists but my twists get really puffy and big. Any other styles you ladies would suggest??

Also, i sweat like nobodys business. I wear a satin scarf over my hair to protect it from the helmet lining and by the time warmups are over its soaked. I usually dont have issues with buildup or a dirty scalp since i dont use products, only oil, but my scalp has demanded frequent washing due to salt from sweat. I hate using shampoo and so does my hair, but cowashing does NOT do the trick. How do you ladies who workout regularly cope with sweat? I also do off skates workouts so practice days are not the only days i sweat!

I work in fashion and would love to show some other style than Miss Ceiley! The french braids are cute on me and very low maintenence but i want some variation during the day every now and then! I choose not to do pony tails because my hair is so thick that this usually causes headaches five minutes into practice. Not exactly ideal for a sport that requires so much listening and strategy, not to mention getting knocked around :-/. I know this may be absolutely foreign to you all but i need help!!!

Maybe you should try mini twists. I can wear hats with ease when I wear mini twists, because my hair is flattened down. Also there are a lot of cute Updos and styles you can do with mini twists.

Naptural85 works out with her mini twists. When she did wash her hair she used a stocking cap.
