What would you say the secret to a great braidout and/or twistout is?

For me, I get my greatest twist outs when I do my twists the night before on damp, detangled hair using either Shea Moisture curl and style milk or curl enhancing smoothie. I put coconut oil on my finger tips to untwist the next day and I have a soft supple moisturized twistout!

For me....
I get the best braid out when I braid my hair when it is dry with Shea Moisture Curl Enhanced Smoothie, and pin curl it instead of putting perm rods at the end .. here it how it looks -> http://discoveringnatural.blogspot.com/2012/04/apres-braid-out-night-routine-and.html

I'm wierd. My best braid outs come out on dry, moisturized hair with shea butter and smaller braids. My best twist out is on damp hair with a lighter product than shea butter (like the curl.enhancing smoothie) and medium sections

I feel like whenever I do a twist out, it comes out frizzy and it doesn't stay down, and just looks a hot mess. I detangle on damp hair, put on coconut oil then add my moisturizer and twist. I'll wait overnight till they're dry and take them down and it just doesn't look right...perhaps my twists are too big?

Making sure to keep the sections you are braiding or twisting separate. You know how when you braid and the three pieces of hair are not all the same length? Sometimes as you get to the end, you start borrowing strands from the other sections? Don't do that! That borrowing leads to a frizzy undefined result. If the ends are not the same length, go as far as you can and then smooth your sealer on the end and roll the loose end on a roller, rod or rag roller.

When you say dry hair do you mean your hair has no water in it and you just braid or your hair is dry and you add product without adding water?
The thing about smaller sections, is that I have a LOT of hair and don't want to be braiding for forever. But maybe when summer vacation comes I'll try a ton of small sections. |
