I'm tweaking my hair regimen. I've decided to wash my hair in about 26-28 twists instead of parting my hair in 4 sections. The only thing is I'm still transitioning (21 months post relaxer), and I need something on the ends to keep the twists intact during the washing process. Preferably something that won't damage my relaxed ends. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I don't know about putting stuff on the ends of your hair while wet because hair is more fragile when it's wet.My suggestion is to use buttefly clips to clip your twists up in sections and cleanse your hair section by section in the twists.

Unless you have a dirty, sweaty job, lots of product buildup, oily scalp and hair etc. Most people's hair does not require the full head of suds scrubbed in twice on the whole head that shampoo commercial enjoy showing on tv.

My hair did not get THAT dirty. The roots needed a wash because I want to wash away sweat, dry skin, product etc. The middle might need a wash because of product buildup. The ends only needed moisture. This goes for transitioning hair and natural hair. So I put a light coat of olive oil (before my silicone days, but I still revisit every once in a while) on my ends and smooth a little over the rest of my hair. I don't put much oil or anything on my scalp now. My scalp has found a good balance. Not too dry, not oily, no flakes.

I don't make my hair greasy in case I get lazy and don't wash my hair right away. When I wash, I get under the water, get my hair wet and put a little shampoo on my head approximately in the middle of my hair. Not the middle of my head, but part way down the hair. I smooth it on, not scrub, bunch, scrunch or any hair bending motions.

Then I let it sit for a minute or so to soften any buildup if I have it. Smooth it again and then I rinse with warm/cool water. Conditioner as normal. I never directly put any shampoo on my ends, I let the shampoo water run downs off the ends. It rinses some of the oil away but not enough to strip them. I didn't have much breakage and I only cut them off because I was tired of two textures.

I looked at my measurements from last yr and averaged them. It looks like I've only retained 3.25 inches for the whole year. That's terrible! Any advice??

Thank u for your response

On wash day I apply my conditioner to dry hair in sections and twist. After 1-2 hours or overnight if I'm lazy/busy I rinse and follow up with a ACV/water rinse on the scalp to get rid of any buildup/dirt. In goes the leave in, and then I air dry in loose twists. While I'm doing all of this I try to keep my hair stretched out.

What I've recently started doing is leaving the front part of my hair in the same twists that I style my hair in (@ 8-10). I work with with each twist one at a time, untwisting to add/rinse product and retwisting. I'm trying to figure out how to duplicate this in the back with 18 twists. This would help me decrease breakage when detangling and maintain length, which is my main challenge. I need to find something that I can use to keep the back twists together, let them hang straight down, and prevent unraveling without tearing up my ends.

How do you care for your ends?? I'm no expert but I know that has a whole lot to do with retention. I'm on a mission to seal and care for my ends and really pay attention to mine more.

I protective style 90% of the time in flat twist updos. How do I properly re-moisturize my hair w/o distrubing the style/ creating frizz?

Currently I only moisturize every 3-4 days with a spray bottle that consists of water and oil, then tie my hair down tightly with a scarf to flatten my hair.

Also, do I have to seal in the moisture from my spray bottle even though there's oil in it?
