  • Dry hair

My 3 year old has thick 4b hair that never stays moisturized. I have tried sheamoisture, Miss Jessie's, bee mine and carols daughters. They all seem great when first applied, but an hour or two later she has dry and sometimes hard hair. Product suggestions please?

Try your local lush cosmetics store ( everything is natural & organic) . They Have a product called R&B moisturize. Its specifically made for African American hair. The best part is you can try before you invest & buy a whole thing. Just ask for a sample & they will give it to you. They give them for anything in the store you want to try. They also have other hair aids for dry hair. Just tell the in store specialist & they will recommend &give you samples.

Just a word of warning try the R&B on a strand of your daughters hair first because that stuff was fatal for my hair- left my curls very hard+dry+tangled and I followed the in store specialists instructions!

They have a conditioner called retread you can use as a leave in I tried it on a section of my hair in the store and the next morning the twist was still moisturized, soft, and defined curl.
Good luck. Try adding an oil to your moisturizer of choice as well.

How about trying the LOC method or LCO? That may help a lot more than just applying one product.

That's what I was gonna suggest! The LOC method works wonders for retaining moisture.

It does! I actually prefer LCO over LOC, I like the oil to be the last thing I put on

Theres a product called LIV I just started using on my 3yr old. you can get it at any bss or sally's. Its a conditioner and hairdress in one. Its thick for 4b/4c hair like my daughter's. Ive only had to use it once a week and I put a little on her edges and scalp. Her hair is so moist and has lots of moisrure. I love it.

This has been around forever! My momma used it on my hair when I was a little girl and that was about 20 years ago

I have tried EVERY product (and more) you have listed as well and none of the, worked for my DD. What did work was Afroveda curl define, or qhemet olive and honey heavy cream layered with Elastasa QP feels like silk styling gel (which is really not like a hard gel and keeps her hair very very moist, cuts down on frizz, and adds great shine). This week I tried layering her hair with some oil just to see if it gives added moisture. So far I like it but its still to early to report fully. Feel free to send me an email if you would like to see how much better her hair has grown and thickened in the past few months. I hope this helps some.

I bought the Amla heavy cream from qhemet and I loved the results, but shipping is slow and the product is small for the price. My daughter had alot of hair. Hoping to find something similar I can get in the stores or add castor oil to another cream since that's qhemets main ingredient

How long exactly did it take to get to you? I just ordered the twist butter this morning.

If you haven't tried the LOC method I think you should its really helped my one year olds hair with dryness even if I leave her hair over night not much dry frizz as a couple weeks ago

This recipe or application of products gave my daughter really moisturized hair:

                              Products needed:
                              Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
                              Shea Moisture Curl Mousse
Kinky Curly Knot Today (another leave in like Giovanni Direct would probably work)
Shea Moisture Gel (not sure of the name of it)

I cowashed her hair with Shea Moisture's CoWash, used Shea Moisture Conditioner (another would probably work), then:

Mix Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie with the Gel looking product (maybe a teaspoon of each or 2 teaspoons of the Smoothie and 1 of the gel--it won't take much)

Smooth Kinky Curly Knot Today onto each section (I washed in sections and did most of this at the sink), then add about a pump of Shea Moisture Mousse to that section and smooth/comb through, lastly add the mixture to hair and style. This is good for twisting, ponytails, or knots.

Refresh by adding a little Knot Today, Mousse, and Water in a spray bottle and mist. 2nd or 3rd day, you can use Shea Moisture Curl Spray and alternate. The Curl Spray can be used after the mixture as well for extra shine.

If you don't have these products, Target may still have them Buy 1 Get 1 50 off and I think Walgreens has the same.
