  • All Things Low Porosity

    Hey!
So I figured we start an thread that will answer every question about low porosity. While researching regimen tips, I realized that there wasn't one thread dedicated to "all things low porosity" so I figured I create one.

We can use this to share tips, answer/ask questions and just find support from other low po divas...

I'll start, I've noticed that just by applying heat and using glycerin and honey in my DC treatments that my hair has continued to stay moisturized and I'm finding myself not having to refresh every few days.

For me, once I moisturize and seal my ends with oil, I'm good. As long as I moisturize my ends nightly and pineapple, my hair doesn't dry out.

I don't have low porosity hair but my daughter does. I'll be checking out this thread regularly to get some tips. It seems that as soon as I'm done wash/conditioning her hair, it's dry. Like the water just won't penetrate her strands, lol. Then anything I put on it after that just sits there unabsorbed. So frustrating! Any suggestions?

Try warming up her conditioner or using heat before washing.

              Great thread. Thanks!
I put very few things in my hair that do not have water or AVJ as the first ingredient.
Heat is the best for DC and pre-poo. I also let steam from shower penetrate curls in morning before applying homemade hair spritz and moisturizer.

any effective dc for me can't have any heavy oils as the first 5 ingredients of it will not penetrate. my conditioners can't be thick either. so even something like curl junkie just sat on my hair (what a waste!). i haven't found a good leave in though unfortunately. that's the last frontier.

Oh really? I wanted to try that but I was afraid it wouldn't penetrate and I would be out of cash.

I've also noticed that squeezing and evenly distributing my products have worked wonders.

Also, us low po divas have to be patient lol..something that took me FOREVER to realize :-/

I agree with warming up my DC's it's made a world Of difference . Also my leave in doesn't have glycerin in it but it has another humenectant and as long as I seal with oil afterwards my hair is usually good for the week. Currently I'm really enjoying almond oil .

Myhoneychild Olive You (When I put this on--my hair soaks it up and I can detangle my hair. Even after I rinse it out- my hair is still soft. I love love this DC

Darcy's botanicals DC--This is also a great favorite of mine. It's a thick DC but my hair absorbs it.

I just tried Curl Junkie Hibiscus & Banana Deep Fix. It's lovely and thick. I got some DC's during Black Friday. So I have to try them all and decide which is going to be my staple.

I want honest to God staples by Feb.

Mixed Chicks is a pretty good DC. It's probably my fave ground DC. I also love SM Purification Masque, but I consider that to be a prepoo because it's such a great detangler.
