  • BekkaPoo's Freeform Journey

Hey CN lurkers and posters! I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to start a little thread here to keep track of my locing journey. I never thought I would ever do this, but after having an epiphany three days ago (on Three Kings day, no less), I decided to just leave my poor hair alone for once and for all, and to let nature take its course.

I don't know about you but when I see so many naturals talking about "combating" their hair, it really makes me sad. (What did your hair do to you that you have to go to war with it?) Well, I'm not fighting my hair anymore. I'm ready to be fully loced right now, but I know I just need to sit back and relax, enjoy the process as it happens.. so here's to the next year and seeing all that it will bring.

The picture and caption below are from my hair album (linked in signature)..

'I actually shampooed again this morning as well as doing a quickie protein reconstructing treatment to impart a bit of strength to my strands as I ramble along on this journey. I haven't shampooed my hair this often in one week, ever. I can see that my hair is shrinking up a bit, and it's as frizzy as always at the crown. This is my hair with no product. The hardest part so far has been doing nothing at all to my hair.. I still feel like "I must do something to/with my hair" or else my day just isn't complete..lol'
The reason why I decided to loc is pictured below.. too many damn products!! lol

I'm onboard as well. I look forward to admiring your journey and being as supportive as possible. March will be a "do or die" time for me ... Will I stay loose or will I join the movement and loc? THAT is my question ... Until then, I'll continue to admire my daughter's journey as well as the journey of others. Happy loc'ing!

Aww thank you! I thought I couldn't get more excited but now I am..

And NeeC1...come on, you know you wanna loc! (Like daughter, like mother, right?) Of course it's all your decision, but I'm gently urging you to the loc side.

So today I shampooed again, air dried, no oil, no extra anything.. Just letting it fly in the wind. My hair always dried quickly, but today must have been a record. I washed at 8:30am, and by 9:30 it was 100% dry already. It's super fluffy right now..I just have my very loose headband on. Don't wanna pull my edges off.

                  Thanks beYOUtiful.

I think there is some matting starting in the back already. Glad the process is beginning so soon. All that time I spent detangling my hair was just fighting what my hair wanted to do on its own.

If I could go to the De Lux Salon in Brooklyn, I'd do it NOW! But, yeah, I'm getting that itch ... My baby wears hers so proudly. I need to post some updated pics of her locs. I'll probably retwist this weekend and do so.

Omg that salon made me want them again. One of my favorite youtubers gets hers done there. The owner has an amazing set of locs.

Tbey82, right?! Don't you just LOVE her hair (and Lil T's)?! When I was in the city a few weeks ago, I rode by and noted the name and location of De Lux for my brother-in-law (who's having a helluva time getting his hair loc'd). I got back here (TX) and looked it up and the website is amazing (as is the owner, Glen, YUMMMMMY, honey!) ... Then, a few days ago I was looking for something else regarding the salon and ran across her video about getting her loc repaired. I'm like: Hmm, this is a SIGN! (LOL) Anyway, there are lots of salons here in Texas, but ... THAT one ... I may need to make a special trip back to the city and see about having him lay hands.

Thanks PetiteCurls.. I'm hurrying and waiting for something to happen.

Today I have my hair back in a very loose puffy bun secured with a large fabric scrunchie that I made out of an old t-shirt sleeve.. still haven't combed it or applied any products. I can feel there is a lot of tangling going on, but nothing much that feels like its locing yet.. sigh.. hurry!
