I transfer a mandatory minimum deposit if 10% out of each paycheckt to my savings account. Most of the time I try to save more like 15-20%, but 10% is the bare minimum. You have to "pay yourself" out of each check. It works out well for me.

Put all the change you have daily in a container. Every three months roll the coins take to the bank and deposit. In a year you can save up to $700 dollars (or more)...depending on how often u use cash.

Here are a few easy savings tips hubby and I recently started doing:

Own your own laundry mat: If you own your own washer and dryer at home, go to your local laundry mat and see how much it costs to wash and dry a load of clothes.

Then, every time you do laundry, put the amount of money it costs into a jar that you keep in your laundry room. You can either add money for each load you do, or just add money once regardless of the amount of loads you're doing. You can have one jar for the washer and one for the dryer. Or, you can put all the money into one jar.

You may also choose to just deposit one dollar each time you do laundry. Tweak the amount you save to fit into your budget. Either way, you'll be surprised at how much you save if you keep doing this consistently and don't spend the money.

We plan to use the money we're saving to purchase a new washer and dryer in the event that we need to.

Create your own tip jar at home: If you go out to eat, write down the amount of the tip. Then, tip yourself the same amount of money you tip the waiter by adding it to your tip jar.

Send yourself a bill for savings: People tend to give high priority to printed bills they receive in the mail. Therefore, why not think of your savings as a bill that MUST be paid. If you're really bad at saving send yourself a bill in the mail or via e-mail each month. Act as if you have no choice in the matter but to save the amount listed in your "bill".

As you can see, there are so many ways to get creative and save. Think of things that you do on a daily or weekly basis and start paying yourself to do them.

I hope this is helpful!
