This is great! I am definitely in. The goal was to work on credit and save so this challenge sure will help.

Default money tracking for the challenge......

as I'm getting ready to start the emergency fund challenge at the end of the month, I figured that I needed to clean house by tracking non-essential/luxury spending. I've completely got outta hand and lost sight of my budgeting.
I tracked my spending for the last 60 days and I have blown quite a bit on my transition journey (major PJ) hair steamer, organic essential and carrier oils, conditioners, etc. I tried to make my self feel better by rationalizing that everything is for a good cause, but, honestly, not everything was needed, so the PJ is being locked away today; anything not in my arsenal already, won't get purchased. Getting my mind in order and destined to stay away from purchasing non-essentials. This move alone should open up more money for the challenge.

anyone else starting to gear up for the challenge to channel money away from luxury items/wants or starting to seriously track every cent?

I need to keep better track of my spending & control my spending habits. I went to Walmart to buy a few things and somehow I ended up in the hair care aisle smh. I stood there going through bottles of conditioner trying to convince myself to buy some. Luckily I didn't but the temptation was very strong lol. In the past I used to only carry around enough money for things that I need. I think I should start doing that again to limit excessive spending/buying things just because

Yup definitely. I even decided to have only have up to $100 in my checking account at any given time save for extra for automatic bill payments that come out. The rest I'm transferring to my savings each pay. I recently stocked up on hair products and shouldn't need to buy a thing for months since I only wash & style once a week. I'm participating in the PJ Rehab challenge on here and we're starting January 1st. I don't plan on buying anything new or restocking through the whole challenge.

that is a good idea, I never thought of just transferring nonessential/extra money into savings, I just have automatic transfers, but I think that I will try that method, but I will more than likely leave maybe 500-1000 in for kicks unforeseen items-bill pay and allotments works for utilities and mortgage and rent--otherwise, I don't have any expenses--for now. I'm also gonna find that challenge and join--

my problem is impulse purchases for small, so called cheap items, but they really add up. I need a pre-paid/pre loaded debit card or something to carry and not my actual debit cards.

Yeah I'm definitely an impulse buyer. Trying to put a stop to that. Hmm a prepaid card sounds like a good idea

I use mint.com to track my expenses and my eating out has gotten out of hand since November. I need to tighten that back up.
