I moved back home and I'm still paying. I've been able to pay off my car loan and one of my student loans.

Thank God my student loan is the only debt I really have on my credit right now...I have no car payment, only 1 credit card (That I use only to boost my credit since I don't have much on my credit report. I pay it off every month), no mortgage...

Mine is a little over 52,000 (I consolidated all my loans into 1) and my payment is only $280, so I will be paying this for a lonnnnnng time. Don't have enough money to put more on it and I already work 60hrs a week at my job (Don't make enough so have to work more for a higher check...my life story).

But yeah it's the size of a mortgage loan, but all I care about right now is that is getting paid every month...that's all I can really do...

Creditors like to see that you have a healthy mix of credit, so having a credit card, car loan, and student loans shouldn't necessarily hinder your quest for good credit. Credit is made up of if you pay on time, how long you've had credit, how many new accounts you open (too many is bad), and how you use your credit (there's more, I believe about 5-6 categories total). That is what makes up your score. I have about 38K in student loans, a car loan, and about 6 credit cards (I believe 2 have a balance) and I have good to excellent credit (depending on which of the 3 credit bureaus I look at). But I've always paid on time, have no collections, or garnishments.

So even if you have a lot of student loans, as long as you are paying your bill in time you shouldn't have too many issues. Also make sure that if you do have a collection you try to pay it off and make them report to the bureaus that it's been paid and get them to send you a written letter. (I did this from a checking account I had as a teenager and the credit union actually removed the entire thing from my credit history because I paid off the money that I owed).

The same if you want to close out a credit card, call them l, write down who you speak to, send them a letter as well stating everything that was discussed in the conversation between the rep, have them send you a letter stating that you requested to close the account, and have them report toe the bureaus that you requested to have the card closed. This process should keep you score from being dinged from closing out the card.

And when dealing with credit cards, please sure that you are paying attention to the total % you are using. You never want to use over 50% of your total credit (ex if you have $10000 total for 5 credit cards, using $5000+ looks bad to creditors). As well as make sure you don't use more than 50% of your credit line per card (ex if you have a card that has a $2000 limit, using $1000+ looks bad to creditors). Always try to keep everything 50% or less. To creditors it makes them wonder if you'll be able to pay all of the debt back, and if you already have a high debt to income ratio, chances are they won't be as willing to give you a line of credit.

Sorry for the long post, but I just couldn't stop typing ☺.

I graduated in 2004 and paid off my debt by 2008. My loans were not that much, but I consistently paid more than the minimum payment every month and at the end made a lump-sum payment with the help of my then boyfriend (now husband).

I have also paid off a car using the same method, and we paid off my husband's motorcycle last year.

A very good way to get out of debt is to use the snowball plan by Dave Ramsey. Take a look. We used this plan to pay off my husband's motorcyle, and will continue to use it for car payments, mortgage, etc... https://www.mytotalmoneymakeover.com...nowballLanding
