Default How much should you save..

Before you move out? My mother keeps telling me that I'm not ready, I just think she's not ready. I'm the last out the nest.

It depends. Some say have enough for 3 months, but I'm a strong advocate for at least 6 to 9 months of savings to cover your expenses. Make sure you have a stable job and steady income. And be honest with yourself and realistic about your spending habits and bills. If you can, have a chat with a financial advisor and get some budget counseling.

I suggest if u have the time, spend at least one month keeping a spending journal & investigating your move. Keep track of every time you spend $ write what it was & how much it costs.narrow down the area u want to live in, research rent, deposits, cut on fees(gas, water, etc).furniture, dishes, kitchen stuff, lamps house/ apt decor all cost$. Figure out what u need & how much it cost.I can't tell u how much because the cost of living varies. But I would recommend saving at minimum 3 months rent& utilities if u have a stable job.

Three months worth of expenses.. how much that is depends on where you live and how you live. If you can figure that out, you have your number.

You should save at least 3-6 months rent, car payments, gas money, grocery money, light bill, gas&electric etc. But you have an advantage being a young worker. It's easier to find employment if yu lose your job. But yu have a disadvantage, it will be harder to acquire loans and credit to supplement income say if your car needs major mechanical repair. But I'd say go for it and move out...what's the worst that could happen?

I know I'm a little late on this, but I recently read a great article called How and Why to Start an Emergency Fund on the Get Rich Slowly blog. It gathers together different financial gurus opinions on how much is enough and why.

The details are here:
