Default Newly transitioning

Hey! I'm 16 and recently decided to transition. My last relaxer was 3 1/2 weeks ago and I've been relaxing since I was 11, I think. My older sister has been a natural for 5-6 months after doing a big chop, but I don't think I'd look good with super short hair so I'm going to long-term transition. Thing is, my mom is.. Well she's kinda being ignorant even though she's natural too( bc, but didn't even know it was called that way or that she was going natural). I really want to do this, for the sake of healthy hair, but the support isn't really there and the comments, just plain ignorant. See, I have healthy and long relaxed hair too, but I just think it I'd like it more if I could have healthy curly hair and be able to straighten it without chemicals. I'm not sure what to do anymore..

Sorry for the super long rant :/

You've come to the right place!!! You'll find much needed and useful support, advice, tips and tricks!!

You can ask anything, tell us ur biggest secrets, or tell us nothing... Many of us have been in some of the same shoes and walked the same miles!!

Welcome to the forums! Many people including friends and family may not support your decision or say all of the wonderful things we'd like for them to say. But that shouldn't change how you feel about yourself, your hair, or this journey you're about to take. Stay positive and remember why you've decided to go natural!

What other people think of u is none of your business.

Thank you!
I live in a city and go to a school where I could count on my fingers the number of black people that are there, so I admit I'm still kind of nervous when it comes to going natural. I didn't tell everybody I was making this decision, but the third person to know, after my mom and sister, was actually one of my closest friend(she's white) and she's the one that is really pushing me to do it LOL.
As for my mom's opinion, I care alot more. So it just gets to me when she says hurtful things, unintentionally or not. Just today she said I shouldn't go natural so young because my hair will be nappy and that people wont like it at all. I know not everybody will, but the way she said it just left me a sour taste in my mouth.

Thank you everybody!
And yes, being in a predominantly white school, I am kinda worried.. Did anyone ever make bad comments to you? I know my friends(mostly white) support me, but I haven't even told my black friends.. Kinda afraid of their judgement I guess.

I agree with BnNappy. There is more support here than you could ever imagine. There is more information, tips and tricks than could fill a book. Remember why you made the decision to go natural. There will always be naysayer no matter how you look or wear your hair. This has to be for you good or bad. You have to be the person to take care of your hair so do what you like. Stay strong!

Thank you for answering! As soon as I hit 3-4-5 months, I'm planning to braid my hair with extensions. My mom does it for me, so it's not really new to me, and I do it atleast once a year. Everytime I do it though, I have RANDOM white people(never even talked to) touch my hair or say how pretty it is and wish they could do the same LOL. It's funny and nice, but still kinda creepy when I feel people touching up on my braids :P
