For me I prefer coconut oil to use on a daily basis. But I got a big ole jar of blue magic in my bathroom that I use every once in awhile if I feel like my scalp needs some extra attention. Its something about the feeling and "ritual" of greasing my scalp that just goes perfect with a good movie right before bed. Lol

Girl liv was the only thing that could lay my hair down when I was stretching a relaxer! I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE the pink grocomplex grease that came in the jar. I might revisit that myself...

Ooooooh yeah...good ole LIV...thought about that one the other day, it smells phenomenal and used to work wonders when I was younger. Might revisit that one as well.

Where is the research behind this? From my understanding, hair grows unless there is a medical condition. It is length retention that should be the focus, and the only key to that is moisture so your hair doesn't break off. I have seen naturals with long flowing hair that use nothing but grease and water, and they shampoo their hair every week.

It all goes back to what works for your hair. Length retention is the key to growing potential. Hairs grows. You just have to keep the ends from splitting and breaking off so that it appears that it's NOT growing.

why dont you try listening to yourself or your hair ? Thats whats going to tell you what works for you and doesnt . There arent any set rules of natural and i dont believe in the natural police , its what works for you . Listening to others is whats going to make you crazy .
Mineral oil and using a comb work for me . I dont co wash , and the natural hair police says i should .
Find out what works for you by trial and error and you will succeed , the natural hair rules are only guidelines which can be broken .

We have been using mineral oil, petroleum for years and nobody has lost their hair from it, in my opinion the complete opposite, naturals in the 70's only used grease & water. Today's, naturals want to fix something that aint broken and may thats why SOME are suffering from dryness and breakage!
I know and see people who use just grease and water with dry, breaking hair. And I see ones with thriving hair. The same goes for natural products. Nothing in life is black and white...so let's stop trying to make a one size fits all solution for natural hair.

My mom used Liv on my and my sister's hair when we were younger! I loved feeling that cold, creamy white goodness in the summer. That, Sulfur 8, water, and the "good brush" were our styling products from my toddler days to about 10 years old.
