Default finger detangling v wide tooth and other combs

when i started as a new natural, detangling was very new to me, and its actually the other reason i just chopped off my hair. i couldnt detangle it properly without tagging and pulling and it hurt. i used the widetooth comb for a while and i felt like it didnt do the job as i wanted it to. then i got this brush that looks similar to a denman brush. this one worked perfectly fine and my hair wasnt as tangled anymore. later after more research i read and heard that finger detangling was the best because you can feel what's happening up there. But after about 5 - 6 months of this i realised my hair was always tangled, my braid-outs would always feel like they are knotting every second. i then realised i hadnt trimmed my ends, so i did that but after a few days the knots came back even when i was de-tangling. so now iv gone back to the 'denman-like' brush and it works well.

il keep using it to see if it would be my staple, go-to detangling tool. my products have nt changed and im revisiting the flexi rods now and again. i just want to stock up on accessories to go with the look eg scarfs, hairbands and flowers. but besides all that, my hair looks good and feels strong, im sure it will get to the length that i want it to be.

That finger detangling stuff is for the birds as far as I'm concerned.LOL...I use a brush and it keeps my tight curls detangled and it doesn't knot up.

Lately Ive been using Vitamin E oil from Trader Joes and Safflower Oil. Safflower Oil is amazing. And a definite must use. It has great properties for retaining moisture in the hair. I mix both of these into my shea butter mix. You might have to go online. But of course do the research. Try nutrution stores in your area. They usually have a good selection of natural products

I'm not crazy about the finger detangling either. The only time I finger detangle is while I pre-poo. There is a YouTuber who swears by finger detangling. As matter of fact I don't think she uses a comb period and her hair looks like dreads. Her twist outs have no definition but to each his own! So give me a Denman (or the Conair knock off for me) and a wide tooth

I'm done with following the next greatest thing.I just can't with the finger detangling. My hair had knotted up so bad and I was afraid of breakage. So, I went back to what was working.I'm extra gentle and only brush my hair carefully when it is damp.

i thought my hair had gone crazy not responding to the finger detangling since everyone swears its the best and safest way to go. good to know its not just me that has this experience. i think as long as we trim split ends, use the brush gently and only brush when absolutely necessary (like detangling) our hair can still grow long and healthy. my styles were starting to look like i didnt even bother to make an effort when i woke up. anyway, they always say what works for one person's hair might not work for everyone.

thanx for the responses guys xxx

i live in a different town now, so finding products is now very easy. all the stuff i need is just around the corner so no online purchases for me, dont like the waiting and sending stuff back if its not authentic. and im just using shea butter for now and got some castor oil for my baby hairs and a little lavender oil for misting my hair once in a while (love the smell). think iv gone lavender crazy though, my perfume, deodorant, air freshener, washing liquid and shower gel all have lavender. was thinking of getting the plant itself. saw it for only £3.99, so excited!!! it just has this calming effect over me, i love it. but yah, iv got my staple products for now, dont want to start using new stuff again until this stops working or something like that (im cheap like that, lol)

Default current style

i did the flexi rod set and was pleased with the results. i put them on after a co-wash and detangling with tresemme naturals and my 'denman like' brush, dried with a cotton tshirt and parted it. i added some shea butter and set my hair. in the morning i took them down with some chi silk on my fingers. my hair was soft and the curls were really cute. forgot to take pics!!! i re-set again today because i was supposed to go to a festival (didnt go...got lazy and my hair didnt dry on time). i used only conditioner, my hair was not tangled at all and i just smoothed the conditioner on it and rolled. sat around for a while, fell asleep for about two hours, woke up alil late for the meet-up so i just took them down. i look a mess but my hair doesnt, so here is the pic.... oh and i love that my hair looks like a weave, feel so blessed and happy to be natural and not have to go through alot just to get this look.

uh i also noticed something, since i stopped oiling my scalp iv not had any dandruff or itching. isnt that weird? i dont put anything on my scalp. guess my scalp is naturally oily. i dont know.
