Welcome to my blog =D
My Story: I decided in 2009 that I wanted get serious about my hair. So what did I do? What everyone else does of course watch a bunch of YouTube videos, visit Long hair care forums, drool over a couple of pictures of women with waist length hair, and not know where to start. My initial plan was to keep relaxing my hair and learn how to take care of it. After all going natural wasn't the ideal thing to do (at the time). My hair was super damaged, filled with split ends, and it was color treated (talk about a triple wammy). I contemplated going natural for months, but I was worried about what people would think or say. I finally came to the realization that it would be the logical thing to do so I stopped getting relaxers in March of 2009. I was super excited to embark on this new journey. I watched tons of natural hair videos and was mesmerized by all the beautiful black women I saw with "curly hair". I never knew our hair was curly I always thought my hair was an Afro and that was why my mother insisted that I got relaxers every few months. I planned on being a long term transitioner. I wanted to grow my hair out at least two years before I big chopped. How typical of me to want to hold in to those raggedy damaged ends right? After 11 months of transitioning I decided to let the ends go. I did my own big chop in the privacy of my aunts bathroom lol. It was one of the most liberating things ever, but then reality set it. I looked in the mirror at myself and wanted to die. I hated the way I looked and regretted cutting it off. I felt like I looked like Jj from Good Tymes lol. I will never forget that day. My two year anniversary will be Feb 27th, 2013. I feel like I have this natural hair care thing down to a science and I know of so many styles I can do. I've always felt better with longer hair, so of course having 4a hair and 50-60% shrinkage was a big adjustment. I always feel so awkward wearing my natural hair out which is why I titled the blog Awkward Natural 😒 This blog will be a combination of natural hair care, tips, pictures, natural skin care, education, and other weird things I'm in to. Stay tuned there are great things to come ![]() Below is my 1st attempt at a twist out EVER...🙈 ![]()
