Default Confusing Curls of CurlyConfusion

Hi Ladies,
I want to formally introduce myself. Hello....my name is Lena. I have never done a blog before so please bare with me. I chose the name CurlyConfusion becuase living a curly lifestyle is very confusing. I figure the events that I go through with my hair may be of some help (or atleast entertainment) to some so I'm going to start depicting my life with my hair here. I'll be writing what works, what doesn't, crazy ideas I may have....whatever's on my mind that has to do with hair. If my name looks familiar to you, I recently started a thread on getting free hair product samples. I'm all about couponing and getting whatever I can for free or at a discounted rate and I love to share the wealth!

I will try not to make my posts as long but this initial post needs you give you background on my head. I got my last relaxer February 16, 2006 and I decided at that time I wanted to be a straight natural. So I got my ends clipped every 6-8 weeks and kept it flat ironed faithfully. Approximately four years later in 2010, I started thinking about how versatile curly hair can be and decided I wan't to embrace my curl. fast forward a year to February 19, 2011....5 years after I got my last relaxer, I big chopped and cut the rest of my relaxed ends off. I'll post a pic below but I went from just about APL to a bob. I straighten my hair occasionally but I'm currently trying to understand my curls. Currently I have 3C/4A hair. It's a little past apl again a year after my chop. My goal is MBL straight, APL curly.

As you journey along with me, if there is ever any comments you'd like to make, or suggestions that you have, I'd be happy to read them all. Also if there's anything that you need from me, something you want me to make a video on, something you need me to elaborate further on, I'd be than happy to oblige. my YT channel is in my signature if anyone is interested in watching.

Thanks for reading and this will be an interesting journey as I continue to figure out my hair.

Now that I have my intro out of the way........

So ladies I had a thought.....More like an Epiphany. With the recent popularity that CurlKit and CurlBox have been receiving, I think there could possibly be a way to try those same products without having to pay the $20 fee. Women, (myself included) post YT videos on what was in the latest box/kit that they received. If you watched and took note, why wouldn't you be able to reach out to those same manufacturers and ask for a product sample? You might not get the same sized product that was put in the kit/box but who cares? It was free and you still got to try it out.

Case in point.....when I got my curlKit this month, I reached back out to the manufacturers to see if I can get samples. I'm waiting on Curl prep now bu tI received my Kinx last week. I got the sample the was put in the kit plus 2 additional! I rate that as a Win Win for Lena.

What are your thoughts?

So....what makes the best twistout? Should it be done on wet or dry hair? Are the best TOs ones that start as twists for a couple of days before unraveling? Do the products you use really make a big difference or is it just the technique used? What do you think?

Right now I'm wearing twists for a couple of days and I'll unravel this weekend. The first pic is of my hair in a banana clip and the ends pinned around it to make a bun. The 2nd is of my hair in a pony tail and my twists pinned to my head to make another twisted bun. This was done on freshly washed hair using Bentonite clay and conditioning with Aussie 3 minute miracle.

I think my twists look better on dry hair. I usually twist at night and unravel in the morning. I dont like to leave them in for days because at my length they look like jailhouse twists. I do prefer flat twists if I want length and 2 strand twists for that chunky look.

LOL!!! I did look a little slave-ish this morning. But I'm stylingmy twists everyday; there's no way I'd wear them out like this. But I noticed that when I twist on wet hair, the back is NEVER dry by the morning, no matter if I sit under a bonnet dryer or not. Becuase of that, the definition is lost in the back. I've done them on dry hair before but I need to document it next time. I can't rememember what I thought.

I dont think your twist look slave-ish. They are actually nice. My hair shrinks so much when wet. Sometimes it gets on my nerves and other times I really dont give a damn. It depends on my mood and where I'm going. My hair dries super fast. It has always been like that, relaxed or natural. But back to twistouts, I can NEVER achieve cute two day hair. It might make it that second day, but it looks a big, thick mess!

Thanks. I saw a YT video where someone pins the twists around their hear kind of like a wrap to help stretch them out. That's the good thing about curly hair. I love how versitile it can be. If we want a more shrunkin look on Monday, we can do that. If we want to stretch it out my tuesday, we have that option as well. I pineapple at night to help keep my twists.....i'm to olazy to retwist every night. I put oils on my hair before putting it up and in the morning, it's not much frizz and not as fluffy.

Today had to be the best day to finally take out my twists. I washed and twisted Monday night and I kept them in twists until this morning. I had great definition. Today ended up being really windy and my hair was moving something fierce but never messed up! Now I have have to keep people's hands out of my hair! I got to work and my work BFF put her fingers in my hair talking bout how much she liked it. I thanked her for the compliment but I wasn't quite sure how to feel. How do you handle people sticking their hands in your hair? Did you care more before or after you went natural?
