Hi Sharika

I am trying to use more herbs in my hair and skin care. I know some work better together. I have brahmi, tulsi, amla, shikaikai, aritha and henna of course. I have mixed the brahmi and amla into my henna. Used the shikaikai and aritha with good results to clean my hair. (not together though) Tulsi (basil) I normally use in cooking but I heard it can be good for hair too. How would I use it?

Thanks

Hi Madeaj, be sure that you have 'holy basil" or "indian basil' tulsi is soetimes called, I know most varieties comon to us here are sweet basil, lemon basil, etc but if it is the true tulsi it can be used a few ways. You could make a tea rinse with the fresh leaves or if the leaves are dried you could also make a tea rinse. You could make your own powder and use it in the same way as the aritha, or shikakai powders by simply making a paste, but the powder needs to be finely ground to a powder otherwise you may run into an issue with rinsing out "pieces" (and that is NO fun :-(
You can kind of interchange the powders, play around until you see what works best for you, thats why I always recommend not just dumping your whole haul of herbs into one big bowl, lol, because if it works wonderfully you dont know which powder is responsible and if it turns ur hair into a frizzy dry ball of hay you wouldnt know what caused it and may mistakenly trash something that works well for you by itself, so use one or two at a time and that way you can isolate the results.
Let me know if you have any specific questions,
Sharika

Default spritzer mystery solved

ok, so after some thought it dawned on me that it isnt the herbs at all causing the 'clogging' but the oils, specifically the olive (i believe which , because it is virgin, becomes semisolid when temps get a little low. Thats why the running the pump under the warm water was a temp fix but once that same oil ran thru the pump clogged again, so I indeed tweaked the balance of oils to correct this problem. If you happen to order and would indeed prefer a different closure just let me know and I'll happily change it for you
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR FEEDBACK LADIES!!

Ok, I'm stepping up my ayurvedic rountine again. I recently got somke tulsi powder and alma powder. I saw your post above, but should I use it with shakakai powder to wash? Just want to make sure. I sure wish there was a manual somewhere....

Hello all, I know it's been a while, but I've been lurking and trying stuff.

I jsut recently revisted your nourishing hair mask and had a great result. Soft hair. I did leave it on for like four hours though.

I also found a new henna, rajistani, I think rinsed well, nice color deposit, I'm happy with the results...

Later ladies!!

BQ how are the babies?

Default Ayurveda Mixin and Summer Hair

Hi All!!
Missy Cee everyone little one is good(all 7 of them, lol growing like weeds)
Thanks so much for asking
As far as mixing powders it's okay to mix them up but just try not to mix too many new powders, because if your hair doesnt like them, you wont know which one is the bad guy!
ex, I absolutely love the burgundy henna mix which is henna and hibiscus flowers. It gives me beautiful color and makes my hair shiny and strong...I know it works. I add brahmi every once in a while and it makes it more like a gloss depending on how much brahmi I add and it leaves my hair super soft, I love it.
SOOO I decided that I wanted to do something different and added some organic amla to the mix and guess what? I got this funky 'twang' to my color and my hair wasnt as soft as usual-no more amla in my henna (actually it was probably was too much acid since I also used 2 tbsp of lemon juice in addition to the amla) so now I know, right?
LOL, had i just tossed everything in my initial mix I wouldnt be able to isolate what not to use next time...hope that makes sense :-)

Now don't forget especially now when your going hard, the gym, the pool, the beach...the elements can do some serious damage to those tresses.
Utilise your powders and clays to cleanse gently and detox add oils like olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil etc to add moisture and cleanse to lay off shampoos. Warm water oil rinses are a lovely way to clean 'summer hair'.
AND WHATEVER YOU DO BE CAREFUL BECAUSE HENNA AND CHLORINE CAN EQUAL SOME FUNKY COLOR
questions, let me know
and dont forget we're having a 20% off sale until Midnight Monday use coupon code WEEKNDR512 and freebies coming so keep an eye out

Question ayurvedic use

I just read you your article about adding ayouvedic to your routine. I use moroccan red clay to detox my scalp & hair and add amla to my conditioner but not sure how else I can use them. How can I use amla power daily. Can I add these powers to my water bottle. also what is neem oil good for.

Thanks

Hi there! You can actually add the amla powder directly to your clay instead of using conditioner. As far as daily usage if you have the time then you could do a daily cleanse using simply amla and water or aloe applying it to hair and rinsing it out. It can also be added to your water bottle by making a 'tea' with the amla or using dried amla fruit (which I actually will be adding to the website soon). Pour hot water over the powder and stir, allow it to sit for about 10 minutes and use in this way.and use. You would want to store your bottle in the fridge so you 'tea' doesnt go bad.
NEEM OILS BENEFITS LET ME COUNT THE WAYS!
If you can get past the smell neem is antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral and all other types of anti words and what that means is neem is useful on the hair and scalp for conditions associated with itching, dandruff, dermatitis, psoriasis it is also good for use on the skin in the same conditions. Neem can be used directly on insect bites to neutralize the sting. Put 1 part neem to 10 parts water in a sprayer and keep bugs away from your organic garden!!(you asked, didnt you, lol)
If you'd like a sample of the dried amla fruits just let me know!
